PHYSICAL WORK ADDRESS: Multiple locations within State Parks Region IV. This position will report to the Region IV HQ office (14200 Garrett Road, Houston, 77044
) 3 days per week and work at other region IV state park locations 2 days per week.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
Under the supervision of the Regional Maintenance Specialist, this position performs advanced (senior-level) construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work. Responsible for providing assistance to parks located within region 4 and helps maintain expectations and communication throughout region 4 parks. Performs highly complex work in several skilled construction trades such as carpentry, millwork, roofing, concrete, masonry, electrical, plumbing and welding. Performs difficult and critical phases/tasks involved in the repair and construction of buildings, utility systems and other facilities. Works in the Facility Maintenance Data computer program to create and organize projects within the region. Communicate Project Task Information to include scope of work, funding, and construction phase to close-out. Assists with implementing the Agency Safety Program within parks. Works with regional & park staff to help develop short-term and long-term goals for both the facilities and staff. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education :
Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience :
Four years of experience in building & equipment maintenance including but not limited to: carpentry, millwork, roofing, masonry, painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, vehicle, or equipment maintenance.
Licensure :
Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid state driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Education :
Certification or education related building trades(s) and/or areas of expertise; including but not limited to: carpentry, millwork, roofing, masonry, painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, vehicle, or equipment maintenance.
Experience :
Experience in data entry of facility maintenance programs.
Experience in training a team or group in building trades or equipment use and maintenance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge of conventional and historic building techniques, materials, equipment and tools.
Knowledge of OSHA and State safety regulations.
Knowledge of State purchasing procedures and regulations.
Knowledge of basic mathematics.
Skill in using MS Word, Excel, SharePoint and Outlook.
Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
Skill in applying conventional or historic building techniques and processes to projects.
Skill in using tools, equipment and materials associated with designated building trades.

Required to work 40 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
Required to perform work outdoors, in adverse weather conditions.
Required to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
Required to work away from designated headquarters and reside in shared housing with other crew members.
Required to travel 50% with possible overnight stays.
Required to respond to emergency and after-hour on call situations.
Required to operate a state vehicle.
Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.
Non-smoking environment in State vehicles and buildings.
