    About the Position:

    The Student Academic Services Unit provides activities and services which actively support California State University, Fullerton's mission by promoting the development of the whole student - academically, intellectually, and socially. We strive to create an environment where all students can succeed. The department coordinates the services of several student programs, many of which give particular attention to the education needs of low-income disadvantaged college students to ensure that they can successfully complete their college education. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Director, Educational Opportunity Program and First-Generation Student Initiatives (Administrator II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

    Under the general supervision and direction of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, Identity and Belonging, the Director of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and First-Generation Student Initiatives is responsible for the overall administration, management, and professional leadership of EOP and First-Generation Student Initiatives. Oversee comprehensive retention services resulting in increasing persistence and graduation rates of the EOP population. The Director supervises staff responsible for coordinating department programs such as First-Generation Student Programming, Summer Bridge, the EOP Learning Community, Transfer Student Experience Programs, the Peer Mentor Program, community building events, and the Annual Recognition Banquet. Responsible for directing the EOP enrollment management process including recruitment, selection, analyzing yield, and admission of first-year freshman and transfer students to the EOP program. Assist in the creation of a CSUF First-Generation Student Center. Supervise the Assistant Director, counselors, administrative support coordinators, EOP admissions staff, peer mentors, and student staff. The Director develops, proposes, and manages the annual operating budget. The Director represents CSUF at the EOP Statewide Director meetings. Other duties as assigned.

    Essential Qualifications

    A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field is required with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible student affairs experience in student retention and/or student success programs on a university campus. Experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems. Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing programs designed to retain and graduate students. Previous experience supervising staff and overseeing/leading the work of others. Working knowledge of student development and student activities programs and services designed for college level programs. Experience in enrollment management. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate databases and records and ability to create reports. Knowledge of and experience working with diverse student, faculty, and staff populations. Ability to work well under pressure and meet timelines. Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques. Strong communication (both written and oral), and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

    Preferred Qualifications

    A doctorate degree is preferred. Experience with data analysis and program impact assessment. Strong background in program operations and staff supervision. Preference for multiple years of experience in the Educational Opportunity Program or Federal TRIO programs. Experience working with first-generation student scholar programs or services.

    This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
