and year-three rate of $24.92 per hour.Job Location: Willow Springs Regional OfficeThe highway design intern duties may range from technician-level to entry-level professional depending on student knowledge, skills, and abilities. The design intern performs computations for preparation of detailed construction plans for a portion of, or a complete, highway project. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.
- Assists designs projects, including but not limited to, bridge replacements and resurfacing utilizing engineering software; prepares reconnaissance and conceptual reports and other project correspondence, including but not limited to, environmental impact statements.
- Utilizes computer aided design & drafting software and various other computer software packages to assist in the preparation of computer-generated design plans for project assignments; prepares summaries of quantities.
- Delineates right of way on plans and computes areas; prints microfilm plans and maps for survey research and
requests. - Attends public meetings. Prepares handouts, displays, project overviews, maps and photos for public hearings and presentations.
- Researches historical databases and records; locates and reproduces highway plans that are kept on microfilm or compact disk for designers, the general public, contractors, consultants, and utility companies.
Minimum Qualifications: - Enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12 credit hours); for engineering candidates, program must be ABET-accredited.
- 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
- Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
