    This position will be located at the St. Louis Regional Office at 1390 Timberlake Manor Parkway, 2 nd Floor, Chesterfield, MO 63017 .

    • Conduct air pollution source inspections at often complex facilities to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal air pollution control laws and regulations; prepare formal written inspection reports complete with applicable checklists and other documentation, with discussion of the inspection findings, and recommendations to direct compliance.
    • Conduct Stage I Gasoline Vapor Recovery (GVR) inspections at regulated gasoline dispensing facilities, observe scheduled leak decay and pressure vacuum valve tests to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
    • Conduct asbestos inspections at regulated abatement and demolition projects to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal air pollution control regulations, prepare formal written inspection reports complete with applicable checklists and other documentation, with discussion of the inspection findings.
    • Investigate environmental air pollution concerns, including open burning, dust, and odor concerns; prepare investigation reports, and conduct appropriate follow-up to attain compliance.
    • Provide technical assistance concerning state and federal air pollution control laws and regulations to businesses, general public, other government agencies, and others.
    • Conduct air pollution control Compliance Assistance Visits as needed.
    • Perform related enforcement activities; issue Letters of Warning and Notices of Violation as appropriate; prepare subsequent follow-up correspondence to attain compliance with air pollution control laws and regulations and permits; prepare cases and evidence for referral to the Air Pollution Control Program (APCP) for enforcement action; perform activities in coordination with other programs and agencies; and assist the Program's Enforcement Unit and Attorney General's Office team members in case development and monitoring of compliance agreements and court orders.
    • Schedule and perform day-to-day work in an independent manner and under minimal supervision.
    • Use a computer and sampling and other equipment to safely and efficiently perform work.
    • Perform administrative duties such as time and record keeping and vehicle and other equipment maintenance.
    • Attend work-related formal training and meetings.
    • M aintain knowledge of Department Personnel and inspection policy and procedure manuals.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    This position requires or is required to obtain and maintain OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 9 certification, a Missouri Asbestos Building Inspector Certification, and a Missouri Asbestos Supervisor Certification. I f you do not currently possess these certifications, you will be given six months to obtain the necessary certifications.

    To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

    • Oral and Written Communication : Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, consider the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately
    • Interpersonal Skills : Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.
    • Reasoning : Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions.


    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • A Bachelor’s degree* and 0-4 year of relevant experience as well as the ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.
    • *Preferred degree program would include a combination of the following: Environmental Science or Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science, Geology, Forestry, Soil Science, Ecology, Wildlife Management, Agriculture, Animal Science, Natural Resource Management, Soil Conservation, or a closely related field.
