and year-three rate of $24.92 per hour.Job Location: Sikeston District OfficeThe Traffic intern duties may range from technician-level to entry-level professional depending on student knowledge, skills, and abilities. Reviews work relating to roadway access, traffic handling, and excavation proposed on department right of way, and performs inspections of projects to ensure compliance with specifications set forth in permits. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.
- Prepares and issues permits to utility companies, contractors, developers, governmental entities, or individuals for work on department right of way with designated project specifications and requirements.
- Meets with contractors, developers, governmental entities, individuals, and utility companies to explain procedures and department policies on granting permits.
- Reviews and approves proposed plans for construction on department right of way for feasibility with regard to drainage, sight distance, landscaping, curbing, traffic flow, and related requirements; makes recommendation for modification; may coordinate permit work with other district departments.
- Reviews work zone requests and approves or restricts work zone activity based on the impact to traffic and the community.
- Conducts field inspections of projects and work zones, and performs measurements of traffic control devices to ensure compliance with departmental standards.
Minimum Qualifications: - Enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12 credit hours); for engineering candidates, program must be ABET-accredited.
- 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
- Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
