    The City of Irvine is seeking a hard-working, experienced maintenance professional to serve as a Facilities Maintenance Specialist within the Public Works & Sustainability Department. The position performs skilled building and facility maintenance and repair tasks in assigned specialties, including painting and infrastructure.

    This recruitment will supplement an existing Eligibility List for the Facilities Maintenance Specialist position, which will expire on 11/21/2025. If you are already on an eligibility list, please reapply to demonstrate interest and update your application information.

    Your Impact
    • Effectively communicates with customers and all levels of City staff including responding to internal and external customer service requests.
    • Prepare work orders, inspection forms, and risk management assessments.
    • Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and installation for parks and/or buildings and facilities including painting.
    • Review contracts regarding assigned specialization and monitor contracted work.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • High School Diploma or equivalent with vocational/technical training in a specialty, such as HVAC, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or building maintenance.
    • Three years building construction/maintenance experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver's license.

    Best Fit
    • Demonstrated computer literacy and working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems, word processing, and records management.
    • Excel at working independently and exercising sound judgment.
    • Proven track record of outstanding situational awareness, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
    • Understanding of contract management.
    • Diagnose paint failures and underlying issues such as moisture intrusion; recommend long-term solutions. Apply specialty coatings for graffiti resistance and water protection, ensuring compliance with Volatile Organic Compounds, ADA, and fire safety standards. Coordinate schedules with departments, trains new staff, create work orders, and tracks tasks in the work order system. Provide informal oversight on team projects and safely uses ladders, scaffolding, and boom trucks.
    • May perform skilled painting tasks. Lead full-cycle painting projects, from assessment and surface prep to application and cleanup. Prepare surfaces by sanding, patching, caulking, and priming; apply coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment, including airless and High-Volume Low-Pressure (HVLP) systems. Select appropriate materials for various surfaces and environmental conditions and maintain a paint book to ensure color consistency across City facilities.
    • Three years of commercial painting experience.
    • Skilled in applying texture using HVLP and airless sprayers, with experience selecting and applying the proper materials across a variety of surfaces.
