    Human Rights Investigator

    Annual Salary Range: $62,000 - $66,000

    * Please Note : The salary/salary range listed in the job description is a base salary only and does not include years-of-service adjustments. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments may exceed the salary/salary range listed above.

    Location: 421 E. Dunklin St, Jefferson City, MO, Daniel Dunklin State Office Building

    This position is not eligible for remote work.

    The Department of Labor & Industrial Relations is looking for a dedicated and customer-service driven applicant with excellent communication and writing skills to conduct workplace investigations, monitor agency compliance with civil rights laws and assist Department staff with sensitive issues! We provide leadership in the planning, integration, and implementation of HR services to staff and applicants statewide.

    What you will do:

    • Conduct workplace investigations of alleged discrimination and sexual harassment. Interviews complainants, respondents and witnesses.

    • Prepare investigative reports with findings & recommendations.

    • Work closely with the General Counsel’s Office on investigations and litigation cases involving MCHR/EEOC.

    • Schedule and conduct alternative dispute resolution (mediations).

    • Conduct periodic department reviews to monitor agency compliance with civil rights laws.

    • Research civil rights laws and best practices as needed.

    • Deal with highly sensitive and complex planning and decision making with personnel matters.

    • Assist with employee attendance and performance issues.

    • Assist with facilitating civil rights training.

    • Assist Missouri citizens with alleged discrimination complaints regarding Department services.

    • Assist with the Workforce Non-Discrimination Plan.

    • Ensure compliance with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

    • Minimal statewide travel and some overnight travel required.

    All you need for success:

    Qualifications

    • Six years of investigative experience OR a Bachelor’s degree with two years of professional experience in human relations, grievances, equal employment or other investigations.

    Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis for denying consideration to any applicant.

    Desired Attributes

    • Working knowledge of civil rights laws.

    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills.

    • Trained mediator preferred but not required.

    • Exercises independence and initiative in the performance of responsibilities.

    • Maintains positive working relationships and conduct duties with courtesy and respect.

    • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, attention to detail and organization skills.

    • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
