RoleUnder general direction, performs work of moderate difficulty in maintaining the safety and security of the Courts and court services personnel.
Major Duties, Responsibilities- Assists Court Security Manager in the operations of Court Security within the Superior Court and Justice Courts; participates in recruitment/ selection processes to hire, promote, and retain staff; assists with developing and implementing security policies and procedures including access and special requests; covers a court security post.
- Schedules subordinate personnel.
- Monitors court electronic security systems, court video surveillance systems, and various fire and security alarm systems; performs patrols of designated areas; responds to emergencies and implements emergency procedures when appropriate and as directed.
- Operates metal detectors and x-ray screening machines to detect concealed weapons and hazardous objects; prevents unauthorized access to restricted areas; interacts with the public, court officers, peace officers, judges and employees; assists bailiffs with security needs in courtrooms at the direction of judges and court administration.
- Performs duties of Manager when necessary, collects statistics, and prepares periodic reports regarding security incidents in the court buildings.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible relevant experience in court security, law enforcement, military, private security, or closely related field.
Additional Requirements:Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license. Must successfully complete the Court Security Officer Academy within ninety (90) days of hire. Must successfully complete the Armed Court Security Officer Academy. Must comply with the Arizona Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees and complete annual training as required by the Arizona Committee on Judicial Education and Training (COJET).

Work Environment:The work environment is associated with an office or courtroom with occasional work outdoors. The work area is adequately lighted, heated or cooled and ventilated. This is a highly public position where contact with the public may be in stressful situations.
Physical Requirements:Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Performs work that requires good physical strength and condition to apply restraining techniques, defensive tactics, react to physical confrontations and emergency situations, may lift and/or carry people, supplies, equipment and/or other heavy, bulky items. May be exposed to potential physical harm, bloodborne pathogens, and/or physical violence; may be required to physically restrain persons, and effectively deal with stressful and potentially life-threatening emergency situations.
