Job Location: This position will be located at 205 Jefferson St., Jefferson City, MO 65101.
Why you’ll love this position: The Office of Childhood provides a comprehensive approach to childhood care and education in Missouri. It includes programs related to child care, home visiting, early learning, and early intervention for children birth to age five, as well as afterschool programs for school-age children. The Office of Childhood is responsible for overseeing DESE’s efforts to expand and improve high-quality early learning opportunities.
- Provides operational and logistical support to the Assistant Commissioner, with discretion in the performance of duties as work is often of a highly confidential and sensitive nature.
- Responds to and follows up on phone calls to the main office line and emails in the office email account.
- Prepares and proofreads various memorandums, letters, and reports for the office.
- Compiles and maintains appropriate office employee records.
- Prepares and proofreads State Board of Education meeting materials for submission to the Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner.
- Provides information to the public and employees on a variety of matters related to the office and/or departmental operations and policies.
- Schedules meetings, rooms, and equipment for the leadership team.
- Opens, sorts, and distributes mail in and routes to appropriate person(s).
- Completes activities necessary to hire and onboard new employees in the office, including but not limited to, tasks on the executive checklist for new employees.
- Maintains professional appearance in accordance with department appropriate dress policy.
- Understands and follows complex oral and written directions.
- Conducts routine administrative and supervisory detail independently.
- Composes correspondence without review.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Commissioner.
- Demonstrates regular, reliable, and engaged attendance.

Minimum Qualifications: - Graduation from high school or High School Equivalency.
- Three years of progressively responsible clerical and secretarial work, including one year in an advanced level position.
