    Are you seeking a part-time job that involves keeping city buildings clean and presentable for the public? This opportunity could be perfect for you.

    We are hiring for three (3) Custodial Assistant (Hourly) positions. These roles will handle custodial tasks and other necessary responsibilities to maintain 445 Bryant Street, Lucie Stern Community Center City and other city facilities. This position is Monday-Friday with occasional weekend work.

    The City of Palo Alto offers the following benefits to those in a SEIU Hourly position.

    This is an SEIU Hourly (limited-benefits) position that is budgeted to not exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year. The number of hours per week and schedule will be determined based on assignment.

    Essential Duties

    Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Collects and disposes of garbage, recycling, and compost.
    • Sweeps, scrubs, and polishes floors and dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork.
    • Vacuums and shampoos carpeting and upholstery.
    • Cleans restroom facilities and replenishes supplies.
    • Washes windows and walls and polishes metal work.
    • Turns out lights and locks doors and windows.
    • Take care of equipment and materials used in the workspace.
    • Prepares service call requests for observed building deficiencies.
    • May assist with moving and setting up of office equipment and furniture.
    • Maintain log of observed building repairs and prepares service call request.
    • May make minor repairs, tend surrounding grounds and set up rooms for meetings.
    • May engage with public or internal customers for general building requests.
    • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Ideal Qualifications:
    • One year's experience in custodial service or related.
    • Understanding the operation and repair of all custodial-related materials.
    Special Requirements: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.

    City Government

    Palo Alto is a full-service charter city with a council-manager form of government. The seven-member City Council is elected at large, and the City Council annually selects the Mayor and Vice Mayor from among its members. The Mayor and City Council appoint the City Manager, City Attorney, City Clerk, and City Auditor. The City Manager is responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the City.
