    Position Description

    Are you a data-driven leader passionate about shaping the future of utility infrastructure? Tacoma Power is seeking an experienced and innovative data professional to join our Innovation & Asset Management (IAM) team which works to modernize our transmission and distribution (T&D) systems, ensuring they are resilient in the face of aging infrastructure, electrification, distributed energy resources, and climate change. This position will focus on Asset Management as the T&D Asset Management Lead. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in helping Tacoma Power make the right decisions for our rate payers.

    You will lead T&D’s Asset Management program by developing a vision which creates focus on strategic asset planning and analysis to ensure data driven programs for asset renewal and replacement. Additionally, this position will enhance how T&D’s IAM team uses data by enabling better access, processing, improved data analysis, and building complex models for analysis. This position will also support efficiency in how we use data currently, by automating processes that pull data into our Whole Life Cost Models and other data analysis including visualizations.

    About the Role
    As the T&D Asset Management Lead , you will be the key driver behind our T&D Asset Management program. You will lead a team of three data analysts, setting the strategic vision and roadmap for how we leverage data to make informed, data-driven decisions. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic thinking to build and maintain the models and systems that will guide our asset renewal and replacement programs.

    You will be instrumental in harnessing new data, including information from our advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), to create complex models. Your work will not only improve the efficiency of our data processes through automation but also provide critical insights that directly impact T&D's risk exposure and budget priorities.

    Key Responsibilities
    Leadership & Team Management
    • Lead, mentor, and guide a team of three asset management staff.
    • Direct and coordinate asset management projects, ensuring quality and alignment with strategic goals.
    • Gather feedback from internal customers and collaborate with consultants to enhance our programs.

    Vision & Program Direction
    • Develop and maintain a strategic 3-5 year roadmap and a 1-year work plan for the team.
    • Work with senior and executive leadership to align asset management priorities with T&D's critical facilities and budget.
    • Synthesize asset risk and financial forecasts to ensure our vision is aligned and actionable.

    Data Modeling & Analysis
    • Develop new models to process new data sources including advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) data, informing maintenance and replacement decisions.
    • Lead the team in improving data capture and building predictive models to support data-driven asset replacement.
    • Perform complex analysis and forecasting to evaluate the effectiveness of current maintenance practices.
    • Automate data processes and run models to analyze trends over time, providing insights into T&D’s risk exposure.

    Communication & Subject Matter Expertise
    • Lead the communication of our work, progress, and metrics to both technical and non-technical audiences through reports, interactive dashboards, and presentations.
    • Serve as a subject matter expert, supporting team members with complex data analysis tasks, including data cleaning and code problem-solving.


    Qualifications

    Minimum Education*
    Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, computer science, economics, statistics, mathematics or directly related field

    Minimum Experience*
    4 years of experience in statistical analysis, data modeling or data analytics including 1 year prior at senior, lead and/or supervisory level

    *Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

    Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
    Some positions may require individuals to complete annual training and pass a comprehensive personal risk assessment (background check) prior to employment and every five years thereafter as required by federal regulatory requirements (NERC-CIP)

    Other Employment Information

    Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.

    Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.

    Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
