The Position Engineering Technicians perform a broad range of duties involving technical engineering work in support of professional engineers including drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials and soils testing, construction inspection, roadway design, right-of-way engineering, planning, permitting and inspection, water rights appropriation and land acquisition in support of civil or related professional engineering work. Work requires the application of technical engineering skills, methods and practices in compiling technical data, drafting, computer aided software, operating specialized equipment and preparing engineering related documents.
Under close supervision of a higher-level technician or engineer, incumbents learn to perform technical engineering tasks at the entry level. This position is located within the Location Division of the Nevada Department of Transportation and includes up to 75% travel. This position will be assigned to a Land Surveying crew that performs a wide range of field and office services such as but not limited to Establishing Aerial Photogrammetry Control, Performing Cadastral Retracement, Establishing Precision Control Networks, Setting Monumentation and Retracement of Right-of-way and other Boundaries.
This position will be responsible for setting up field equipment such as Tripods, Global Positioning Gear, Optical Total Stations, Digital Levels, Lidar Scanners, and other Land Surveying Gear. Incumbent will be expected to learn the operation of these items and support other crew members in the Surveying Efforts. Incumbent will be required to fill out paperwork and forms, keep equipment and trucks maintained and generally be of assistance as needed and directed by a supervisor. Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience involving public contact; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, some positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal statute requires random testing for controlled substances during employment. This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. This position requires applicants be at least 18 years of age upon hire.
