    General

    The Facilities Electrician will report to the Deputy Director, Facilities, and is responsible for a variety of medium and high voltage (above 600 volts power) electrical distribution systems and associated electrical equipment. The functions/duties are comprehensive of skilled work involving installation, maintenance, inspection, service, repair, modification, troubleshooting, monitoring and operation of such systems/equipment.

    This position is journey-level in nature to provide skilled electrical services while ensuring a high degree of compliance to applicable regulatory/safety codes, District policies and best practices of the trade.

    Essential Functions & Duties

    Examples of Essential Functions:
    • Monitors, inspects and tests high voltage electrical distribution systems and related power equipment and documents findings.
    • Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces and installs high voltage electrical components, circuits and systems and supporting hardware.
    • Coordinates, plans and monitors scheduled work with staff/stakeholders, other crafts, third-party contractors and/or inspection/regulatory agencies.
    • Investigate and resolve complex electrical and software communication-related issues within our bus and fleet electrical charging systems. This includes diagnosing power flow problems, evaluating software performance, and conducting root cause analysis.
    • Generate detailed technical reports on system performance, identifying key metrics, trends, and areas for improvement and work with various power management software platforms to optimize charging efficiency, monitor system health, and implement new features.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, software, and field service teams to ensure seamless system operation and effective issue resolution.

    Examples of Essential Duties:
    • Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics, diagnose cause and devise course of action for non-functioning equipment, work with 600 volts electrical circuits.
    • Conducts routine and scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
    • Maintains accurate records of work performed, including detailed reports, inventory, and cost estimates for parts and materials.
    • Operates SamTrans vehicles to travel to work assignments and to procure and transport tools, supplies, and equipment
    • Updates and maintains accurate electrical drawings and documentation.
    • Monitors and reviews the work of contractors, vendors, or subordinate helpers, ensuring compliance with SamTrans standards.
    • Performs all duties in strict compliance with SamTrans Policies and Procedures, the National Electric Code (NEC), and all other relevant regulations and safety standards.
    • Maintains clean, safe work and storage areas; cleans and repairs tools and equipment.
    • Participates in workshops, trainings, and meetings to maintain professional skills and stay current with industry trends and technologies.
    • Receives and reviews various technical documents, including work orders, billing invoices, architectural drawings, electrical diagrams, meter readings, maintenance manuals, Various reports and Studies.
    • Operates and maintains emergency generators during power outages.
    • Utilizes a variety of tools and equipment, including meters, gauges, diagnostic equipment, and common hand and power tools.
    • Operates a personal computer with standard software applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, database) and learns specialized unit software.
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, coworkers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Ability to work on-call potentially evenings and weekends, including Holidays, sometimes in inclement weather conditions when necessary.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Supervision :Works under the general supervision of the Deputy Director, Facilities & Maintenance, establishes goals and objectives and evaluates performance.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:
    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
    • Certificate of completion of a recognized apprenticeship, accredited trade school, or the equivalent amount of experience and training comparable to journey level crafts status as a High Voltage Electrician.
    • Eight (8) years of experience working at a journeyman level as an electrician in commercial and residential environments.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints with thorough knowledge of the NEC and the California Electric Code.
    • Exceptional written and communication skills.
    • Knowledge of SOP’s, reading, writing and interpretating.
    • Experience drafting emails, reports, and internal documentation.
    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
    • Strong written communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely.
    • Understanding of safety practices and Environmental Health and Safety policies and procedures.

    • Paid Time Off - Newly hired employees accrue 6.5 hours bi-weekly when hired (if Exempt 8.25 hours).As you move up in years of service credit, the rate of the amount of PTO accrued will also increase.
    • Paid Holidays - The District provides seven paid holidays throughout the year - New Years Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4th), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day
    • Floating Holidays - District employees can earn up to five (5) floating holidays.
