DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Examine and verify information on applications for Alternate Housing Facilities, Correctional Facilities, and TABC pre-qualification packages to conduct location checks to verify the location is eligible for either a permit or to sell alcohol.
- Perform location distance checks for sexually oriented business permit applications.
- Conduct on-site compliance enforcement for proprietor and vendors who are found operating without required license or permit.
- Prepare reports and enter relevant information into computer data files.
- Issues citations to those businesses who are found operating without the required license or permit.
- Perform safety and compliance inspections of vehicles-for-hire.
- Conduct field compliance enforcement for vehicle-for-hire operators. Issues citations to those operators in violation of commercial permitting and vehicles-for-hire code of ordinances.
- Testify in court against violators of city ordinances.
- Will be required to drive on city business.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONSPosition is physically comfortable. Must be available to work weekends and evenings. Will be working outdoors on many days. Job consists of long periods of walking with routine exposure to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution such as those encountered in general outdoor conditions. The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as vehicle immobilizers or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSMINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages,
ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or a GED. May
require a valid Class C Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: One year of work experience in document research, investigations, or a related field is required.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: A valid Texas Driver’s License and complies with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCESStrong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in a regulatory or law enforcement environment.
Must be available to work occasional weekends and evenings.
