DescriptionPerforms manual work in lawn service activities. Work is characterized by substantial volume of laboring tasks requiring skills or special knowledge acquired through training or prior work experience. Assignments frequently include the operation of complex motorized equipment or the use of specialized machines and hand or power tools. Work is routine and repetitive, under general supervision in accordance with specific instructions, and with defined procedures and schedules. Work is reviewed, while in progress and upon completion, for adherence to instructions and conformance with established standards. Works a forty (40) hour week. May require overtime.
Examples of Duties- Performs, assigns and oversees all spray maintenance of parks and grounds.
- Applies fertilizer, herbicide and other agents as appropriate for the proper maintenance of turn and landscaping throughout the park system.
- Recognizes and identifies pest and weed damage to determine appropriate remediation.
- Reads technical label and application instructions; calculates proper application rates and dilution; schedules applications.
- Calibrates sprayer/spreader equipment; operates self-contained spray unit and/or tractor to apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers through attached spray booms/spreaders.
- Maintains records/logs of spray applications.
- Organizes chemical storage area and maintains inventory.
- Performs routine maintenance on sprayers and spreaders to include changing hoses and cleaning screens.
- Performs seeding, overseeding, aeration and topdressing of playing surfaces.
- Performs grounds maintenance including, but not limited to, grass cutting, pruning, planting, irrigation, fertilization, and trimming of trees and shrubbery.
- Removes weeds and invasive plants.
- Operates manual and power tools such as non-propelled and self-propelled mowers, blowers, weedeaters, edgers, hedge trimmers, chain saw, etc.
- Performs servicing of two- and four-cycle engines (i.e. oil and filter changes, lubrication of equipment, replacing or repairing broken equipment, etc.) and lawn mowing, trimming, and edging equipment.
- Picks up trash, debris, and brush; loads debris onto trucks and disposes of it.
- Maintains cleanliness of outdoor furniture, sidewalks, buildings, entryways, etc.
- Assists in the setup, implementation and breakdown of events as needed.
- Performs routine duties necessary to assure safety of employees and general public.
- Reports and addresses hazards, e.g. fallen branches, uneven sidewalks, etc.
- May performs light carpentry, fence repair or hardscaping.
- Performs related work as required.
- Completes written documentation related to job functions.
- Attends and remains at work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absenteeism and tardiness. Provides adequate notice to higher management with respect to vacation time and leave requests.
- Performs related duties as required, including working in other functional areas to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the workload.
- Operates a County vehicle.

Typical QualificationsRequires a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma with experience in general grounds maintenance. Must possess Public Applicator License through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (Core Application License) and at least two (2) of the following licenses: Natural Areas, Public Health Pest Control (Mosquito Control), Turf and Ornamental, Right of Way or Aquatics. Must possess a valid State Drivers License.

- Ability to give and receive information relating to building maintenance and repair needs.
- Knowledge in the areas of facilities and grounds maintenance and repair, mechanical maintenance and repair, etc.
- Knowledge of to County policies regarding workplace safety. Use and/or wear any safety equipment or apparel deemed necessary for the task at hand. Reports unsafe conditions to your supervisor.
- Ability to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision.
- Knowledge of mechanical/vehicular maintenance and repair requirements.
- Ability to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the industry.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a field environment with exposure to heat, dirt, dust, grime, fumes, cold and wet adverse climatic conditions. Noise or vibration from machinery.

FLORIDA RETIREMENT SYSTEM (FRS) The Florida Retirement System is a retirement plan designed to provide an income to a vested employee and his/her family when the employee retires, becomes partially or totally disabled, or dies prior to retirement.
