  • Job Description

    This position is responsible for performing various custodial, maintenance and exterior duties for the Waste to Energy facility and provide relief equipment operation.

    Performs grounds maintenance including mowing and trimming. Weeds and brushes as needed. Maintains a neat and orderly exterior appearance.Removes snow/ice around buildings and sidewalks.Performs basic maintenance and repair to heating and air conditioning systems. Performs custodial and light maintenance duties.
    • Sweeps, vacuums, mops, shampoo carpets and strips / wax / buff / burnishes floors
    • Washes walls, windows, woodwork and furniture
    • Dusts, polishes, arrange or move furniture and equipment
    • Replaces light bulbs
    • Unstops and cleans lavatories and toilets
    • Disinfects toilet rooms
    • Maintains, replenishes and issues cleaning and related supplies and equipment
    • Removes garbage and empties recycling containers and disposes of these in an appropriate manner
    • Paints interior rooms
    Assists with boiler cleaning activities and plant repairs as directed. Secures buildings.Performs daily inspection and service to equipment (oil, grease) and keep a record of inspection.Other duties as assigned.Assists on the tipping floor as directed.Perform relief loader operator duties in transporting items to and from incinerator and within facility as directed. Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly maintenance/ supply area. Other duties as assigned.

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum of one (1) year maintenance experience.
    • Previous work experience in equipment operation or truck driving preferred.
    • Must possess valid Driver’s License.


    • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of assigned equipment and machinery including lifting capacities and proper loading to meet safe and efficient weight distributions.
    • Ability to operate assigned machinery and equipment skillfully and safely in close proximity to vehicular/truck traffic, slopes, debris, laborers/etc.
    • Ability to safely load, unload and transport items to and from incinerator.
    • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of assigned equipment and machinery.
    • Knowledge of industry safety rules and ability to utilize Personal Protective Equipment.
    • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with the public.
    • Ability to take control of situations in a responsible manner.
    • Ability to work as a member of a team and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
    • Ability to comprehend, retain and apply County, State, and Federal policies and legislation, i.e. local ordinances, procedure manuals, SDS sheets, safety manuals and warning labels.
    • Ability to maintain accurate and complete records and understand and carry out instructions received in writing or verbally.
    • Ability to maintain regular, reliable, prompt and predictable on-site job attendance.
    • Ability to work allocated hours which may include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
    • Ability to lawfully operate designated equipment/vehicles at all times duties are performed.
    • Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations.
    • Knowledge of computer software including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications consistent for this position.
    • Ability to perform mathematical calculations required of this position.
    • Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits with minimal direction and supervision.
    • Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
    • Ability to apply sound judgment and discretion in performing duties, resolving problems and interpreting policies and regulations.
    • Ability to communicate detailed and often sensitive information effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to handle sensitive interpersonal situations calmly and tactfully.
    • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with individuals within and outside the organization.
    • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position and respond after hours as needed.
