    Job Description:

    Purpose:

    Under close supervision, coordinate and perform work in administrative and operational management of the

    airport facilities.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    • Inspects facilities and ensures safe operating conditions.
    • Investigates problem areas and make recommendations for corrective action.
    • Responds to emergencies, makes decisions and coordinates emergency activities, and implements emergency plans.
    • Researches information as requested/needed.
    • Writes technical reports.
    • Works with federal agencies, and airport tenants as required, ensuring the safety, security, and efficiency of airport operations.
    • Answers emergency and non-emergency phone calls, determines nature of request, and takes messages when necessary. Initiates, enters, and updates the system.
    • Provides customer service to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and City of Austin employees, other governmental agencies, and tenants by performing duties such as providing information using communication devices.
    • Records data to appropriate forms/logs. Searches for data on multi-application computer systems.
    • Operates/monitors multi-channel radio, audio/video, multi-agency, and multi-jurisdictional paging systems.
    • Coordinates the opening and closing of the airport (or portions of it) based upon airport conditions, safety factors, and emergencies.
    • Coordinates investigations with other entities and Department of Aviation.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
    • Knowledge of airport operations.
    • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws.
    • Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures.
    • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Knowledge of tools and materials used in equipment and facility maintenance.
    • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
    • Skill in oral and written communications.
    • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
    • Skill in using computers and related security software.
    • Skill in planning and organizing.
    • Ability to quickly recognize and analyze irregular events.
    • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priority.
    • Ability to stay informed of airport operational, safety, and security issues.
    • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public
    • Ability to train others.


    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Graduation with an associate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business or Public Administration, Aviation Management, or in a field related to the job. OR
    • Two (2) years of experience in the U.S. Military Services, airport operations, or in another field related to the job.
    • Any combination of education and work experience may substitute for the above minimum
    • Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
    • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, and obtain and maintain federally-mandated security clearances required to work at an airport.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    Valid State of Texas Class "C" Driver’s License.

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    This position is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the traveling public, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and City of Austin employees, and the neighboring community by recognizing and responding to violations of local, state, and federal laws and ordinances.

    Salary:

    $23.76 - $27.32

    DRIVING REQUIREMENT:

    This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties and the individual will be required to drive a City vehicle. Position will also be required to drive on the AOA.

    This position requires a Valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months. Job Offer is contingent on having a driving record that meets the City’s Driver Record Evaluation Standards.

    OVERTIME:

    Overtime may be required with or without notice.

    WORK HOURS:

    Core hours are 0430-1500, 1200-2230, and 2030-0700. This position requires flexibility to work any shift within a 24-hour period, based on these core hours, seven (7) days a week, including weekends and holidays.

    Schedules may vary based on operational needs and are subject to change.

    Hours may change depending on departmental needs. Work hours may include after-hours, holidays, and weekend work

    City Government

    The City of Austin is a progressive, full-service municipal organization operating under the Council-Manager form of government. Austin has a 10-1 council system with an at-large Mayor and Council Members that represent ten districts.
