The City of Rolling Hills is seeking a motivated, forward-thinking Planning Manager to lead our Planning Department and help shape the future of our community. If successful, the selected individual for this position will grow into the department's Director role.

  • Job Description

    Under the supervision of the City Manager, the Planning Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Planning Department and play a key role in guiding land use, design, and redevelopment efforts. This is a unique opportunity for a leader who thrives in a collaborative environment and is excited to influence policy, engage with the community, and bring innovative ideas to life.

    In this role, you will:
    • Lead and manage Planning Department operations
    • Support policy development related to land use, design, and redevelopment
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Planning Commission and City Council
    • Work closely with developers, contractors, and the public
    • Coordinate with regional and intergovernmental partners
    • Help guide the vision and growth of a one-of-a-kind city

  • Job Requirements

    Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience, which provides the individual
    with the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job. To include:

    • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal planning and zoning.
    • Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in urban or
    • regional planning, architecture, geography, public or business administration, or a related
    • field.
    • Three (3) years of supervisory experience is required, or an equivalent combination of training and experience which indicates an ability to perform the essential supervisory functions of the position.
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's license.
    • Master’s degree in urban planning or a closely related field from an accredited institution or certification by the American Institute of City Planners (AICP) or related organization is highly desirable.
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment.
