  • Job Description

    The City of Weatherford’s Transportation and Public Works Department is looking to hire a Traffic Technician. This position performs duties related to the constructing and repairing of street signs, permanent markings and traffic control. If you think you’d be a good fit, we would like to hear from you.

    Roles & Responsibilities include:
    • Performs duties related to constructing, repairing, and maintaining street signs such as painting, repairing warning lights, ordering signs, poles, paint and various parts required and maintaining adequate inventory of supplies required for building and maintaining signs; installs signs and sign posts including setting poles in ground; setup and remove caution signs and barricades.
    • Install traffic buttons on streets; paint curbs and stripes on streets.
    • Directs and controls traffic for other departmental personnel to ensure safety while performing duties in highly traveled locations.
    • Operates equipment, hand tools and power tools such as dump truck, backhoe, shovel, pick, wrenches, screwdrivers, jack hammer, hydraulic saw, etc.; may also operate vehicles from one job site to another.
    • Provides technical direction to other department personnel in the building, repairing, and maintenance of street signs.
    • Places traffic counting devices and collects traffic counting data.
    • Design, implement, and maintain temporary traffic control.
    • Participate in after-hours work which includes but is not limited to on-call/standby procedures, special events, and emergency events.


    Qualifications

    • Above knowledge and skill may be gained by one year of responsible experience in repairing, constructing and maintaining street signs OR by any combination of training and experience leading to the described level of knowledge and skill. • Must have or obtain a valid Texas CDL Driver’s License within the first six (6) month initiation period of employment and driving record must meet or surpass guidelines as set forth by the City.
