The Position
Driver Warehouse Workers receive and store freight, load transporting vehicles, and deliver and pick up supplies, materials, and equipment.
Under general supervision, incumbents operate tractor-trailer combination vehicles which may include pulling double trailers for regional and statewide delivery and pick up of food, furniture, supplies, equipment and vehicles and perform the range of duties described in the series concept. Incumbents couple and uncouple tractor and trailer(s); inspect equipment systems and components to ensure they are safe and in proper working condition, and load and secure cargo. Combination vehicles are operated in a variety of driving conditions to include adverse weather conditions, mountainous terrain, multi-lane freeways, narrow two-lane roads, residential areas, and heavy urban traffic.
The Nevada Department of Agriculture, Division of Food and Nutrition in Sparks is seeking to fill a Driver Warehouse Worker 2 position. Duties include operating warehouse equipment and commercial vehicles to receive, store, load, and deliver USDA Foods on scheduled routes. Responsibilities include inventory management; palletizing, inspecting and verifying freight; loading and unloading shipments using forklifts or pallet jacks; and storing goods, including in freezers. Prepare and stage orders by pulling, packing, and loading stock according to delivery schedules. Operate light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles to complete deliveries and obtain required documentation. Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance of vehicles and equipment, reporting or arranging repairs as needed. Maintain organized warehouse layout, ensure proper stock rotation, optimize space utilization, and conduct regular inventories. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) One year of commercial freight delivery experience which included responsibilities for loading freight and operating a Class A commercial motor vehicle; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements Driver Warehouse Workers are required to possess a valid commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsements at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment if the vehicle to be driven on the job has a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 pounds or more. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law requires random testing for controlled substances during employment. Additional Position Criteria Ability to drive a manual transmission is required. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
