Job Summary
Performs routine inspections, lubrication, cleaning and minor repairs on City of Bryan vehicles and equipment.
Essential Job Functions- Performs routine preventative maintenance inspection tasks on various types of City fleet equipment such as automobiles, trucks (both light and heavy duty), gasoline and diesel engines, fire apparatus, tractors, backhoes, front loaders, graders, street sweepers, mowers, and other types of municipal power-driven equipment in accordance with standard trade practices.
- Visually inspects all vehicle system components including, but not limited to, filters, hoses, belts, tires, batteries, lights, breaks, fluid levels, etc.
- Performs preventive maintenance repairs, including, but not limited to fluid and filter changes, break adjustments, tire repairs/changes, hose/battery/wiper replacement, and performing minor repair/replacement of other worn components.
- Provides courier or errand service to transport customers, vehicles, and parts.
- Communicates repairs to the Fleet Administrative Assistant so that a work orders can be written and the concerns addressed before return to service.
- Cleans vehicles and related mechanical parts.
- Assists other fleet staff as needed or requested.
- Provides quality customer service and communication at all times and monitors quality of all repairs to ensure safe, efficient vehicle operation upon return to service.
- Utilizes a wide variety of hand tools and other related shop tools and equipment.
- Stores, handles, applies, and disposes of hazardous materials as required.
- Assists with maintaining safe, clean, and orderly conditions in the workplace.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Responds regularly and promptly to work.
- High School Diploma or GED is preferred, but not required; vocational training in automotive repair is a plus.
- Requires at least one (1) year of work experience involving the maintenance and repair of automotive and other mechanical equipment.
Equivalent combinations of related education, experience, certification, and training may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements
Required:- Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
Preferred:- National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence certifications in at least two skill areas, with the primary being Medium/Heavy Truck Preventive Maintenance Technician certification.
