    Two full-time positions available with the Law Department, Litigation Division located at 414 E. 12th St.
    Starting Salary: $6,489/month
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. *Telework schedule available after 6-month probationary period completed

    Responsibilities

    • Represents the City in lawsuits in which the City is an interested party, whereas most cases in the Litigation division are defensive cases: motor vehicle accidents, property damage (water main/sewer breaks), employment, breach of contract, and constitutional cases.
    • Represents the City in affirmative litigation such as opioids, car theft, or police funding litigation.
    • Handles all aspects of a lawsuit, including factual investigation, responding to charges of discrimination, answering or moving to dismiss a petition, conducting/responding to written discovery, taking and defending depositions, motion work, settlement negotiation, and representing the City at hearings, trials, arbitrations, and appeals.
    • Performs substantial legal research and writing, as well as critical thinking, risk assessment and management, and independent judgment.
    • Provides legal opinions, present before Council, assist Corporate Legal Services with mitigating risk, and perform other tasks as assigned by the City Attorney.
    • Works independently and as part of a team.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES graduation from an accredited school of law. Must be admitted to the Missouri Bar Association within six months of appointment.
