    Summary/Class Characteristics

    Part Time Recreation Aide

    The City of Petaluma is looking to fill several Recreation Aide positions at the Petaluma Swim Center and Cavanagh Pool. This position will provide customer service, supporting aquatic center front desk operations and more. This is a part-time, at-will, non-benefited position. Shifts start as early as 5am and end as late as 9pm. Shifts vary by season, but will include working weekends and holidays.

    This recruitment will remain open until filled and may close at any time. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply early for first consideration. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.

    Summary
    Recreation Aides play a key role in delivering City of Petaluma summer camps, after school programs, special events, aquatics, senior programs, and other recreation services. All Recreation Aides will be trained and certified in CPR and First Aid.

    Class Characteristics
    Under direction of higher-level recreation staff, Recreation Aides assist in the delivery of recreation services. Additionally, they provide customer service and support community center and/or aquatic center operations.

    Duties

    Duties:

    Assist in the delivery of recreation activities such as games, sports, crafts, field trips, swimming, aquatics classes, and special events.

    Assist in maintaining order and ensuring participant safety; rendering first aid, when necessary.

    Tutor participants.

    Interact with participants and their families.

    Provide information to the public, communicating department policies, and following-up regarding questions/concerns received.

    Monitor activity locations and report any security concerns.

    Process activity sales/cash register operation.

    Collect and entering participant data.

    Assist in organizing supplies and equipment.

    Prepare materials (e.g.: copies, craft supplies, etc.) for activities.

    Assist with activity set-up/clean-up.

    Assist with light custodial work.

    Perform similar duties in support of recreation programs and/or community center operations.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge of:

    Principles and practices of customer service.

    Education and Experience
    Any combination equivalent to the education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to gain such knowledge and abilities would be:

    Experience:

    Customer service experience is desirable.

    Certifications/Licenses :

    Must be certified in First Aid and CPR (this will be provided by the City).

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, dependent upon the specific task. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the employee to be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level is moderate to loud.
