As one of the oldest cities in the United States, Albuquerque offers a rich multicultural history and a vibrant heritage that shapes daily life. Recognized as one of the most culturally diverse cities in the nation, Albuquerque’s unique character is reflected in its architecture, art, cultural institutions, and cuisine. Deeply rooted Native American, Hispanic, and Latino traditions are woven into the fabric of the community, creating an authentic Southwestern experience unlike any other. Albuquerque blends tradition with modern living, from renowned New Mexican restaurants and thousands of local shops and galleries to world-class visual and performing arts and a premier golf course. The city’s striking skyline rises against the dramatic Sandia Mountains beneath an expansive blue sky, creating a breathtaking backdrop where past and present meet.

The Executive Director of the Gateway System of Care provides strategic, operational, and administrative leadership for the City’s comprehensive homelessness response system. This system is designed to move the City beyond short-term solutions and toward a coordinated, data-informed, and compassionate continuum of services promoting stability, dignity, and long-term success for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The City of Albuquerque is seeking a collaborative, results-driven leader to serve as Executive Director. This role calls for a hands-on executive who can provide visionary leadership while actively managing daily operations across a complex, multi-site system serving vulnerable populations. Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Public Administration, Public Health, or a closely related field; a Master’s degree or doctorate is strongly preferred. Candidates must have senior- or executive-level management experience in shelter operations, homelessness services, behavioral health, social services, or a related field, along with demonstrated experience working directly with unhoused or highly vulnerable populations. Experience overseeing complex systems of care with multiple service providers, supervising managers and multidisciplinary teams, and leading administrative functions—including policy development, regulatory compliance, contract oversight, and program evaluation—is essential. A proven ability to use data and performance measures to drive operational decisions and system improvements is also required. The annual salary range for the Executive Director – Gateway System of Care is negotiable dependent on qualifications and experience.
