    Lecturer A/2 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per month
    Lecturer B/3 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,221 - $13,224 per month
    Lecturer C/4 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,825 - $14,523 per month
    Lecturer D/5 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $8,593 - $15,211 per month

    Anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. See the Faculty Salaries At-a-Glance guide for more information.

    Position Summary:

    The Department of English is searching for a temporary lecturer in linguistics for the 2026-27 academic year, with the possibility of appointment in subsequent years. The candidate must be able to teach courses in second language acquisition, English grammar, and general linguistics (e.g., syntax, morphology, sociolinguistics). We are especially interested in candidates committed to supporting the success of first-generation and underrepresented students. California State University, Chico seeks faculty who are competent in their field, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success. We are primarily looking for instructors to teach in person.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a Ph.D. in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a related field with a concentration in second language acquisition. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered; however, the doctorate must be complete prior to the beginning of the academic year, August 2026.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Eligible candidates could have expertise in any area in linguistics but should be qualified to teach general undergraduate-level courses across a variety of different areas in the field, as well as graduate-level courses in second language acquisition theory and second/foreign language teaching methodology. Preferred qualifications include training and experience in language teaching, experience in curriculum development, and a background in teacher education. Successful candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to diversity as evidenced in their record of teaching, scholarship, and/or service.

    Responsibilities:

    The teaching load is five courses (1.0 time base) per semester. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate-level courses in ENGL within the candidate’s disciplinary expertise and graduate-level courses in EDSL in second/foreign language teaching. Specific teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

    The Department:

    The Department of English is a large and complex unit with over 30 tenured, tenure-track, part-time faculty and teaching associates, and over 200 enrolled graduate, undergraduate students and certificate programs. We offer BAs in English Studies, English Literature, and English Education; Minors in Creative Writing, English, Linguistics, and Secondary Language Arts; Certificates in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Teaching College-Level Writing, and Literary Editing and Publishing; and MA with emphases in Creative Writing, Language and Literacy, and Literature. The department also manages the Writer's Voice reading series and oversees two student organizations.
