    Woodland Community College is seeking an equity-minded, dynamic, collaborative, andinnovative Instructor to serve as Biology Faculty at our Lake County Campus. This is an open position: we are seeking an instructor who can guide and expand a biology program primarily geared toward nursing and other allied health care programs.

    Lake County Campus, located in Clearlake CA, is one campus of Woodland Community College. The area is an excellent choice for quality of life with close proximity to the Berryessa Snow Mountain Monument for outdoor recreation, a burgeoning farm to fork movement, and access to Napa and Sonoma Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area.

    The Lake Campus serves over 2000 unduplicated students annually in multiple associate and certificated programs. The pre-health occupations pathway is the largest program at Lake County Campus. The campuses of Woodland Community College are proud of their innovative, student-centered faculty and partnerships with employers, local school districts, and four-year colleges in the broader service area. The small college setting of Lake campus provides an advantage for faculty and staff to adapt to new instructional methods and processes and to foster strong interdisciplinary collaborations that benefit students.

    Woodland Community College seeks a strong, well-rounded, equity-minded biology educator for the Lake County Campus. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience or potential to be an excellent instructor at a community college and can provide leadership or contribute positively in areas such as: development of the biology program and curriculum; keeping course offerings up-to date and relevant; staying abreast of and communicating the current trends in STEM education; collaborating with area high schools; and contributing to oversight of the biology lab, especially the cadaver lab. Essential Duties Summary The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds through effective communication and collaboration.

    As a full-time faculty member, this individual will be expected to organize and teach lecture and labs in all areas of biology, including but not limited to:
    • anatomy and physiology, microbiology, general biology, and bioscience.
    • The successful candidate will be expected to organize and teach a diverse curriculum and engage in culturally responsive and accessible pedagogy.
    • They will provide instruction in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and Governing Board policies; evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters; develop and assess student learning outcomes; and perform other instructional-related duties as assigned.
    • As part of a community of educators, the successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to participating in professional development opportunities that build effectiveness in areas of inclusion, intercultural communication, and advancing equity and diversity.
    • Evening, weekend, distance education, and off-campus instruction may be part of the contract. The college offers courses in in-person, online, hybrid, and point-to-point interactive modalities.
    • The successful candidate will be able to utilize instructional technologies effectively for inclusion and accessibility.
    • Provide effective instruction, work collaboratively to develop and maintain curriculum with faculty, and participate in professional development and college governance.
    Required Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :Knowledge of and ability to understand the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Sensitivity to the opportunities and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population.The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications for instructors in Biology at California Community Colleges:
    • Possess a master’s degree in any biological science OR
    • Bachelor’s in biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics or marine science
    • OR the equivalent. (Must apply through YCCD’s Equivalency Application Process).
    • EQUIVALENCY REQUIREMENT : All applicants are required to meet the minimum qualifications specified by the Yuba Community College District ( YCCD ) by the application filing date. Alternatively, applicants must have obtained an equivalency determination from the District before the publication of the Recruitment Announcement.     • Capacity to innovate curriculum to meet contemporary needs of professional fields;
    • Successful use of online instructional technologies;
    • Preference may be given to applicants with experience teaching biology to community college students in an equity minded and inclusive manner.
    • Preference may be given to applicants with excellent collaboration skills working with department faculty and academic support programs and student services.
