    This position is assigned to Yuba College, Marysville CA.
    Yuba College is seeking an equity-minded, dynamic, collaborative, and innovative employee to serve as the Full Time Lead Grounds Maintenance Worker.
    The work hours are from Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or may vary.
    BASIC FUNCTION :Under the direction of the Grounds and Maintenance Supervisor, perform gardening and grounds maintenance work in the beautification of campus grounds; train, assign and provide work direction to assigned grounds maintenance staff.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years of increasingly responsible grounds maintenance experience including the operation of various landscape construction equipment.

    LICENSE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS :Valid California driver’s license. Valid Qualified Applicator’s license.

    Essential Duties Summary REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES :
    • Perform gardening and grounds maintenance work in the beautification of campus grounds; maintain and repair water distribution system, mainlines, control valves, irrigation and related wiring systems. (E)
    • Prepare soil; apply pest and weed control and fertilizing chemicals; plant trees, grass and shrubs; mow grass; prune trees and shrubs. (E)
    • Operate a variety of grounds maintenance equipment and tools including a lawn mower, edger, weeder, sweeper rototiller, tractor, skip loader, back hoe, grading equipment and others. (E)
    • Maintain equipment as necessary; sharpen reels; replace bearings and seals; grind bed knives. (E)
    • Train, assign and provide work direction to assigned grounds maintenance workers; receive work orders, prioritize and assign work; inspect work in progress and upon completion for compliance to work orders and safety. (E)
    • Sweep sidewalks; rake leaves and lawns; collect paper and trash and perform general grounds cleaning. (E)
    • Participate in the design, planning, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of irrigation and drainage systems, including special athletic grounds facilities. (E)
    • Remove fallen trees, stumps, weeds, undergrowth and debris. (E)
    • Load and unload trucks with equipment, plants and materials; clean and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on grounds maintenance equipment and tools. (E)
    • Move, install and paint concrete parking bumpers and parking lot and roadway signs. (E)
    • Renovate and maintain athletic fields; core, drag, grade and overseed fields; install irrigation systems. (E) Assist in the planning, installation and repair of concrete walks, patios and mowing strips.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE OF:
    • Chemicals used in grounds maintenance. Safety rules and regulations.
    • Applicable electrical systems and applications related to the installation of irrigation systems.
    • Procedures used in designing, installing and maintaining irrigation and drainage systems.
    • Shrubs, trees and lawn planting and care.
    • Proper use and maintenance of grounds maintenance tools and power equipment.
    ABILITY TO:
    • Design, install and maintain irrigation and drainage systems. Provide work direction and guidance to others.
    • Operate and use grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
    • Apply chemicals to control weeds and pests, safely and effectively. Perform heavy physical labor.
    • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

    Outdoor environment.Driving a vehicle to conduct work.Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions. Pollen, dust and fumes.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Lifting, pushing and pulling heavy objects. Seeing to perform grounds work.Heavy physical labor.Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate grounds equipment and tools. Bending at the waist.Walking and standing for extended periods of time.

    HAZARDS : Fertilizer and pest control chemicals.Working around and with machinery having moving parts. Range/Step Range 23, CSEA Salary Schedule Salary Range $24.01 - $30.70/HR.
