    The City of Irvine is seeking a seasoned professional to provide inspection services for complex capital improvement projects at the Irvine Great Park. Projects are guided by the Great Park Framework Plan. Projects may include grading, construction, rehabilitation, roads, bridges, drainage facilities, landscaping, traffic signals, parks, buildings, and maintenance improvements. This is a limited-term position with an initial two-year term and the potential for extension at the discretion of the division.
    The Limited Term Construction Inspector is a flexibly staffed position and may be filled at either the Construction Inspector or Senior Construction Inspector level at the discretion of the department, based upon the expertise of the candidate.

    This recruitment will establish an eligibility list for this position that will expire on 03/16/2027.

    Your Impact
    • Inspect materials and workmanship on Capital Improvement Projects (CIP), including new construction, alterations, improvements, and rehabilitation projects to ensure compliance with City standards, municipal codes, and applicable State and Federal regulations.
    • Prepare and maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly project reports related to contract activities, scheduling, quantities, and budget tracking.
    • Review plans and specifications to assess field conditions, constructability, and contract compliance.
    • Coordinate with contractors and Project Managers to resolve complex and unanticipated construction issues.
    • Monitor contractor performance to ensure adherence to contract terms, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Coordinate and participate in pre-construction meetings and ongoing construction progress meetings.
    • Facilitate coordination between City departments, utilities, outside agencies, developers, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Oversee the work of the contractor and support services with time/material work taking place.
    • Inspect construction activities, including encroachment and utility work within the project limits.
    • Review and recommend approval of contractor progress payments following independent material quantity verification and materials receipt validation.
    • Perform plan checks and review specifications for new and future projects.
    • Respond to and resolve inquiries and complaints from the public, contractors, and City personnel.
    • Inspect and document utility systems (electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC) and identify deficiencies or required corrective actions.
    • Verify that all contract modifications are incorporated into record drawings based on field-maintained as-built documentation.
    • Ensure proper traffic control and public safety measures are maintained throughout construction operations.
    Minimum Qualifications
    Construction Inspector
    • Associate's degree in a construction technology or construction inspection field.
    • Three years of construction inspection experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
    Senior Construction Inspector
    • Associate's degree in a construction technology or construction inspection field.
    • Five years of construction inspection experience orany combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
    Best Fit
    • Strong background in Public Works construction and rehabilitation, construction of parks, and building concrete structures, traffic signals, and roadways.
    • Strong understanding of traffic control procedures and devices for streets, highways, and bike trails and other regulatory requirements such as the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System.
    • Knowledge and understanding of public sector contract administration.
    • Strong relationship-building and customer service skills.
    • A team player with strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong service attitude with a results-driven approach to problem-solving.

    The Process
