GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a rare opportunity to help connect visitors with some of Texas' most unique and precious resources - dinosaur tracks! The person who succeeds in this role will lead Dinosaur Valley State Park in being a premier interpretive site for the entire Texas State Park system. This person will also provide outstanding leadership and guidance to an interpreter at Dinosaur Valley as well as interpreters across our state parks region and the state. Under the direction of the Park Assistant Superintendent, this position performs highly complex (senior-level) state park operations work and is responsible for interpretation efforts at Dinosaur Valley State Park. Researches, develops, and provides interpretive programs, educational programs, exhibits, tours, and outreach programs based on the parks mission and goals. Assists with promotion and marketing of special events. Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers, interns, and seasonal positions. Serves as social media manager and as liaison for park support group. Maintains and develops administrative and interpretive files. Assists with natural and cultural resource management which may include participating in prescribed fires. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
Experience: Three years of experience in interpretation or conducting education programs.
Licensure: Must possess, at the time of hire, a valid State driver's license.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS: Education: One year of experience in interpretation or conducting educational programs may substitute for 30 hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Park Administration, Recreation & Parks, Wildlife/Fisheries Science, Natural and/or Cultural Resource Conservation, Range Management, Forestry, Biology, Anthropology/Archeology, History or closely related field.
Experience: Experience in providing guidance or supervising the work of others.
Experience in customer service.
Experience in park operations.
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Licensure: Current Interpretive Guide or Host Certification issued by the National Association of Interpretation (NAI).

WORKING CONDITIONS: Required to work in a public park with overnight camping;
Required to work 40 hours per week, includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;
Required to work overtime as necessary;
Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;
Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
Required to perform physical abilities such as manually clearing burn lanes, extinguishing fires and cutting brush and timber;
Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;
May be required to operate a State vehicle;
Non-smoking work environment in State buildings and vehicles.
