    Job Summary

    Construction Inspector I/II/III - Contract:

    Construction Inspector I - C = $26.22--$33.44

    Construction Inspector II - C = $27.70--$35.32

    Construction Inspector III - C = $29.41--$37.51

    Nature of Work:

    Performs responsible technical field inspection and office work enforcing national, state, and local codes governing the design, construction, and renovation of buildings, structures, wastewater treatment facilities, and other public works projects. Work involves inspection of buildings and structures, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical installations, and requires considerable knowledge of electrical, carpentry, plumbing, building construction, or mechanical field as well as in depth knowledge of all applicable codes and ordinances. Employees assigned to this classification must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the interpretation and application of codes in making technical decisions. Work is performed under general supervision, according to established guidelines. Performance is reviewed through reports submitted, meetings, and results obtained for technical sufficiency and consistent application.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Construction Inspector I - Contract
    PERMITTING SERVICES - ENGINEERING:
    Associate's Degree with construction-related coursework in area of assignment and a minimum of three (3) years experience in site construction or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education, training, and experience. All levels require a valid Florida Driver's License and must pass a background check which includes a polygraph.


    Construction Inspector II - Contract

    PERMITTING SERVICES - ENGINEERING:

    Associate's Degree with construction-related coursework in area of assignment and a minimum of five (5) years experience in site construction or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education, training, and experience. FDOT Asphalt Paving Technician - Level 1 certification and FDOT Earthwork Construction Inspection - Level 1 certification required. All levels require a valid Florida Driver's License and must pass a background check which includes a polygraph.

    Construction Inspector III - Contract

    PERMITTING SERVICES - ENGINEERING:

    Associate's Degree with construction-related coursework in area of assignment and a minimum of seven (7) years experience in site construction; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A valid Florida Driver's License is required. FDOT Asphalt Paving Technician - Level 2 certification and FDOT Earthwork Construction Inspection - Level 2 certification required. All levels require a valid Florida Driver's License and must pass a background check which includes a polygraph.

    This is a full-time CONTRACT position with the same benefits as Regular full-time. Most contracts are renewable for terms of one year.

    If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
    • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
    • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
    • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
    • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
