    Description

    The Modesto Irrigation District is currently recruiting to fill one full-time regular position to perform physical work and operate a variety of hand held and power equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of District facilities.

    Any Qualified Individual May Apply. This is a non-exempt position and is allocated to the Utility Services and Maintenance Bargaining Unit. The list established as a result of this recruitment may be used to fill other Construction/Maintenance Worker vacancies that may occur within the District through March 5, 2027.

    Examples of Duties

    Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Operates a variety of tools and equipment including but not limited to, dump trucks, crawler tractors below Case 1450 type, rubber tire tractors, flat bed trucks, boom trucks; electric, hydraulic or pneumatic hand tools and motorized equipment
    • Construct forms for concrete structures
    • Construct, maintain and repair irrigation pipelines, canals, or electric conduit/duct systems
    • Rebuild, install, and maintain canal control gates
    • Install pre-cast pipe
    • Shore trenches
    • Install, service and repair pumps and pump facilities
    • Know and perform safety checks on equipment
    • Observe safety regulations and maintain a safe work environment
    • Install and maintain landscape
    • Mix and apply pesticides according to label, and governing regulations
    • Perform general carpentry, operate gunite and related equipment
    • General use of welding and cutting torch
    • Perform overtime emergency work

    Other Related Duties
    Other duties as assigned.

    Typical Qualifications

    Any combination of education, experience, knowledge and abilities may satisfy the necessary minimum qualifications. A typical way to obtain the education, experience, knowledge and abilities would be:

    Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

    Experience: Three (3) years experience in general construction, equipment and maintenance.

    Knowledge and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of construction techniques; construction hand tools, carpentry and concrete forming practices; landscaping and weed control work.
    • Ability to operate a variety of construction equipment and small hand tools; work in confined spaces; perform light to heavy physical labor in various weather and work site conditions; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.

    Special Requirements: Must have a valid California Class C driver license. Obtain an appropriate Class A driver license during the first six (6) months as a Construction/Maintenance Worker and maintain thereafter. May be required to obtain Cal EPA Qualified Application License. Attainment of crane certification is required subject to management discretion and must be maintained thereafter.

The applicant must perform successfully in each phase of the recruitment in order to continue in the recruitment process.
