DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The selected candidate(s) will be responsible for supporting the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of advanced traffic signal systems, automated vehicle systems, and ITS infrastructure, (e.g., DMS, Bluetooth, CCTV, MBC). They will assist in configuring and maintaining communication networks used for ITS, including wireless and fiber-optic systems. Supports the installation and testing of ITS equipment during project execution, tracks project progress, and provides regular updates to management. Collaborates closely with the traffic signal timing team to optimize traffic signal programs for improving traffic flow. Monitors the central Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) for traffic signals, ensuring the effective monitoring, control and optimization of signal operations across the network.
WORKING CONDITIONS his position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers as of satisfactory standing.
OR
Requires graduation from an engineering or related science curriculum at a recognized institution of higher education, other than a curriculum approved by the Board and passage of the eight-hour fundamentals of engineering examination prescribed by the Board.
OR
Possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.

PREFERENCESKnowledge related to the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (Texas MUTCD). Ability to work with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access and Word. Knowledge of drafting applications including AutoCAD and MicroStation and Traffic Signal Analysis such as Synchro, shall be given preference over other applications.
