    DESCRIPTION

    THE CITY OF PLACENTIA IS NOW RECRUITING FOR THE POSITION OF
    PART-TIME CLERICAL AIDE

    This position will be assigned to our Engineering division in the Public Works Department.

    An eligibility list will be created from this recruitment to fill current and future vacancies Citywide.

    This is a part-time position. May work an average of 20-30 hours per week.

    Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Clerical Aide assists, participates in, and performs a variety of tasks related to the Public
    Works Department, which includes administrative, customer service, and basic analytical duties based on the function and operations of the department, and performs other duties as assigned in one or more divisions. The candidates shall have a strong interest in engineering and construction management and be able to assist full-time staff with project design and construction administration.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    The following list of functions, duties, and tasks is typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform other closely related or department-specific functions, duties, and tasks from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
    • Answers, screens, and refers telephone calls; takes telephone messages; greets and directs visitors; assists city staff and residents, the general public, and others in person and by telephone; initiates and responds to routine requests for information from a variety of internal and external sources.
    • Provides administrative and clerical support to department staff in conjunction with a variety of projects and
      assignments as needed.
    • Participates in a variety of studies and special projects to compile and verify data and present findings and make
      recommendations.
    • Utilizes various computer applications and software packages to create and update databases and spreadsheet.
    • Responds to requests for information from outside agencies, organizations, and members of the public, including
      conducting surveys.
    • Answer phone calls or questions from the public and direct phone calls to appropriate staff as needed.
    • Conducts field investigations for projects in the design and construction phases.
    • Assists in the preparation and review of engineering drawings, estimates, and specifications.
    • Research, review, and organize records as-built plans
    OTHER DUTIES:
    • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and the City.


    TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

    Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
    • A high school diploma or GED or equivalent and one year of clerical experience, including experience communicating with the public. Experience may be supplemented by college-level coursework in public administration, engineering, or a related field.
    • Familiarity with CAD software, such as MicroStation and Auto CADD, is preferred.
    • Working knowledge of PDF editing software such as Bluebeam, is preferred.

    LICENSE(S) REQUIRED:
    • Valid, current Driver’s License
      • This position does not typically require driving; however, the ability to use reliable transportation for occasional off-site duties may be necessary.

    In accordance with California Government Code Section 3100, City of Placentia employees, in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to protect the health, safety, lives, and property of the people of the State.

    Retirement - California Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) PST Deferred Compensation Plan. Contribution to this account is 7.5% per pay period, the City pays 3.75% and the employee pays 3.75% deducted from salary. Additionally, employee pays 1.45% towards Medicare per paycheck.

    Part-Time Alternative Health and Wellness (AHW) Leave -Sick leave equivalent accrues at 1 hour per 30 hours worked, max 40 hours per year, max accrual bank of 80 hours.
