  • Job Description

    Overview

    The Brush Superintendent is an Essential Service employee required to be available in times of natural disasters such as tropical storms and hurricanes. Creates and manages work schedules, conducts safety briefings and payroll duties. Conducts daily windshield assessment of collection area. Spot checks assigned field staff to ensure that safety measures are being followed. Provides coaching and supports staff development. Administers progressive discipline. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Responsibilities

    • Creates employee/equipment schedules; validates route change due to staffing needs

    • Ensures services are delivered safely, timely, and in compliance with regulations

    • Conducts tailgate meetings as needed; verifies all employees have necessary PPE and equipment needed to safely complete the collections process

    • Spot-checks field personnel to ensure adherence to policies and safely procedures

    • Provides leadership, guidance, and support to team members while out in the field by assisting with traffic control such as flagging, and assisting with workload if needed

    • Monitors the crew's well-being, especially during extreme heat weather conditions by having a supply of hydrating supplies in assigned vehicle to be distributed to crews as needed

    • Addresses, resolves, and documents field-related problems promptly such as vehicle breakdowns, irate customers, employee injuries, vehicle accidents, etc..

    • Communicates solutions as necessary

    • Ensures that late set outs and 311 complaints are resolved on the same-day

    • Enforces safety standards and operational protocols
    Ensures compliance with environmental and municipal regulations

    • Records crew performances and operational data

    • Coaches crew members on proper work ethics

    • Complete and approve time sheets and leave requests to meet payroll deadlines

    • Keeps records of vehicle accidents/incident reports, and staff training

    • Reviews and approves Counseling Conversation Summary as needed

    • Creates yearly collection Brush/Bulky schedule

    • Communicates with Litter Critter location representatives to confirm yearly event locations

    • Upholds customer service standards during interactions with residents

    • Responds to service inquiries or complaints in a professional manner

    Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

    • Exempt - Full-Time

    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

    • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS)

    • Four (4) years of experience

    Certifications, Licenses or other requirements

    • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

    Basis of Rating

    A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
