THE POSITION

FIREFIGHTER (PARAMEDIC)

The Culver City Fire Department is now offering a one-time sign-on bonus: Incentive Amount of $3,000
$1,000 paid within two pay periods after employment commences.
$1,000 upon successful completion of 6-months of employment.
$1,000 upon successful completion of 12-months of employment

This position is responsible for firefighting, life saving, and rescue services, fire inspection and prevention, and other fire services under the direction of a Fire Captain or Fire Marshal, depending upon assignment. The firefighter position is assigned to a fire response company as a Firefighter, Firefighter / Paramedic, or to the Fire Prevention Division to function as a Fire Inspector.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: Graduation from high school or equivalent and experience in a work environment involving equipment usage, public contact, and physical activity. Candidates are required to meet the standards set forth in the Fire Department's Tattoo Policy (Rules and Regulations 205.28). License and Certificates:

• Possession of a valid California Class "C" driver's license is required at the time of appointment (hire).
• Candidates will be required to attend a Motion Picture/Television - Fire Safety Officer training course within the first twelve (12) months of employment. The twelve (12) month period may be extended at the discretion of the Fire Chief based on course availability.
• Current State of California Paramedic License or proof of current registration as a paramedic with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
• LA County paramedic accreditation must be obtained by completion of the probationary period.

Highly Desirable Qualifications:

• Completion of a State of California Firefighter I Academy or Firefighter I Certification

Salary $81,104.33 - $117,773.75 annual base salary
A one-time $3,000 Hiring Bonus will be given after milestones are verified. 21.75% paramedic bonus above a respective Firefighter 56-hour base salary during such assignment will be given for possession of a valid State of California Paramedic License.12% compensation increase will be given for possession of an EMT Certificate or Paramedic certification.5.5% compensation increase will be given for possession of Firefighter I Certificate.Bilingual incentive of five percent (5%), if eligible, per the Firefighter's MOU.Education Incentive of 2% for Associate's Degree (AA) or 60 units, 4% for Bachelor’s Degree (BA) or 120 units, and 6% for Master's Degree (MA) or 150 units.Longevity Pay of $6,000/year for 10 years of service, $9,000/year for 15 years of service, $12,000/year for 20 years of service, and $14,000/year for 25 years of service.CalPERS retirement benefits.Please select the "Benefits" tab to view additional information regarding compensation, benefits, and assignments.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURES

Applicants must receive a passing score on all of the following examination components in order to be placed on the eligible list.

Applicants must take the written examination through National Testing Network (NTN) or submit a recent test score that was within the last 90 days. Scores will be accepted by invitation only.

• Written Test (weighted at 25%): To assess reading comprehension, reasoning and decision-making skills, mathematical ability, and mechanical aptitude. The City of Culver City only accepts scores from the National Testing Network. Scores will be accepted by invitation only.
• Appraisal Interview (weighted at 75%): To evaluate the candidate's preparation, situational judgment, knowledge, communication skills, and personal qualities. Tentatively scheduled for the week of May 11, 2026.
