    The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is on the hunt for our next team of non-experienced or experienced Juvenile Detention Deputies -If you've got a strong work ethic and a desire to serve, we'll give you all the tools and training you need to succeed.

    At the Juvenile Detention Center, you will work with youth, ages 13-17 years, in a secure twenty-four-hour detention setting. One must be able to interact with all residents in a fair, firm, compassionate, and consistent manner while reinforcing behavior expectations.

    We Offer:

    • Hourly Pay: Start with an hourly rate of $20.80 - $24.63 (based on education and experience ). Overtime (1.5x pay) possibilities are currently available.
    • *Rotating 12.25-Hour Shifts: Rotate day/night shift every 90 days. Day shift 5:45am - 6:00pm and Night shift 5:45pm - 6:00am. Work week schedule: 4 days on, 4 days off, 2 days on, 2 days off. *Mandatory overtime is currently in place, requiring one (1) additional shift per pay period. Know your schedule 1 year in advance!

    To get started, you'll need to be:

    • At least 21 years old and a U.S. Citizen
    • A high school graduate or have a GED
    • A South Carolina licensed driver; or the ability to obtain a South Carolina driver’s license
    • Honorably discharged from the military (if applicable).
    • Have no pending cases or criminal felony convictions (misdemeanors may require expungement).
    • No THC or Marijuana use within 365 days; some drugs are automatic disqualifiers.
    • No student loans in default status.
    • Must pass background checks
    • Must successfully complete the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy’s Basic Detention course of instruction within the first year of employment.
