    Job Summary

    This position serves as the primary contact for the university in providing parking information and directions to campus constituents in the field. This may include services such as welcoming individuals to the campus, providing parking assistance, battery jumps, locating lost vehicles, providing directions and pay station or park mobile application assistance. In addition, protects the fiscal integrity of the Parking Program and promotes the safe operation of the parking facilities through the issuance of parking citations to vehicles parked in violation of State Law or campus parking regulations.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Parking Enforcement - Patrols the campus parking areas on foot or in a vehicle for the purpose of issuing citations to vehicles parked in violation of the California Vehicle Code, Education Code, or applicable CSULB parking regulations. Utilizes hand held devices and LPR (License Plate Recognition) equipment to issue citations, locate habitual offender "bootable" vehicles, provide visual deterrence by presence patrolling the lots, and report out service parking permit machines and equipment to Parking Manger and UPD dispatch.
    • Community and Visitor Interactions - As the first point of contact provides a high level of customer service to campus constituents in the field. This may include services such as welcoming individuals to the campus, providing parking assistance, battery jumps, locating lost vehicles, providing directions and pay station or park mobile application assistance.
    • Traffic Control & Special Events Parking - Provides traffic assistance throughout the campus in heavily congested areas (parking lots and roadways), due to construction zones, special projects, road closures, campus activities (not entered as events), accidents, and campus emergencies.

    This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

    Compensation

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
    • Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $3,461 (Step 1) - $4,056 (Step 9) per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
    • CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $3,461 (Step 1) - $5,043 (Step 20) per month.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to write clearly and appropriately for the position, while exhibiting strong communication and interpersonal skills that support positive interactions with all members of the campus community. They possess the physical capability to independently lift and move barricades and parking control devices, and they are able to quickly and objectively assess situations in order to determine and implement the proper course of action. This individual maintains a safe and respectful work environment, engages with the University community in a courteous manner, and brings working knowledge of technical operational procedures for equipment such as pick-up trucks, permit dispenser machines, and various alternate transportation vehicles, including electric carts.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience

    • Equivalent to a high school diploma and six months of related experience required.

    Licenses / Certificates

    • Must be 18 years of age, possess a valid Class C California Driver's License, and operate a pickup truck.

    • Must be eligible to qualify for a State of California Defensive Driver's Certificate, which requires producing a copy of a current Department of Motor Vehicle driving record printout.

    Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

    Physical Summary

    Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

    Additional Information

    CSULB is not a sponsoring agency for staff and management positions (i.e. H-1B Visas).

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSULB will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

    Due to the nature of this position, current CSULB employees are subject to a criminal record check unless they have successfully completed a criminal background check through CSULB within the past 12 months.

    The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
