    The Role

    The Senior Financial Analyst (County Accountant) performs advanced accounting work and provides technical and professional leadership within the department. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the County’s financial integrity through expert oversight, regulatory compliance, and innovation in financial systems. This position supports the County’s financial reporting and accounting systems, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of an integrated financial management and reporting system. You’ll serve as a senior professional resource, mentor team members, and help analyze and implement new policies and regulations.

    As the Senior Financial, you will:
    • Lead and perform advanced professional accounting activities across assigned financial functions.
    • Oversee and coordinate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and internal controls.
    • Contribute to and/or lead the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
    • Analyze and interpret the impact of policy and regulatory changes affecting County operations.
    • Provide guidance and support to professional and technical accounting staff.
    • Participate in system improvements for the County’s integrated financial management system.
    • Collaborate with auditors, departments, and outside agencies to ensure accuracy and transparency in reporting.

    What you bring:
    • Educational Excellence:
      • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a directly related field from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education.
      • Please note: Given the advanced technical accounting responsibilities of this position, including Financial statement preparation, audit assurance services, and interpretation of US GAAP standards - a strong formal education in accounting is considered essential.
    • Specialized Background and Expertise:
      • Minimum of 4 years of professional accounting or auditing experience including financial statement preparation, audit assurance services, and interpretation of US GAAP standards related to the position.
      • Highly Preferred: Experience preparing or contributing to an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) or equivalent large-entity financial statements. Audit experience, especially governmental audits by the WA State Auditor’s Office or Federal/State agencies.
    • Professional Credentials
      • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - highly preferred and will be screened for.
      • Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) - also preferred.

    Retirement:
    Employees are covered under the PERS retirement plan provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems and Social Security.

    Deferred Compensation (IRS Plan 457b): tax-deferred savings program

    Holidays
    11 paid holidays and 2 additional floating holiday per year, 1 additional floating holiday after 10 years of service.

    Vacation Leave
    New employees are credited with 48 hours of annual leave upon hire and will be begin accruing at the rate of 8 hours per month starting on their 7th month of employment. Employees may carry over 360 hours from one calendar year to the next. Annual leave accrual will increase upon tenure, as follows:
    Upon completion of 2 years: 15 days per year (10.00 hours per month)
    Upon completion of 5 years: 20 days per year (13.33 hours per month)
    Upon completion of 10 years: 25 days per year (16.67 hours per month)

    Sick Leave

    All new hires will be credited with 48 hours of sick leave upon hire and will begin accruing at the rate of 8 hours per month starting on their 7th month of employment. Employees may carry over 1200 hours from one calendar year to the next.

    ***Part-time employees benefit contributions and leave accruals will be prorated***
