    Description

San Mateo County Libraries is seeking enthusiastic and motivated high school students for the position of Summer Youth I ntern.

Summer Youth Interns will be high school students or recent graduates passionate about engaging children, families, and teens in high-quality, research-informed experiences. This will include supporting our Summer Adventure programs, facilitating experiences to help reduce summer learning loss, and joining us in connecting everyone to all that our libraries have to offer.

Location: Interns will be assigned to a community library and work under the mentorship of library staff. County libraries include Atherton, Belmont, Brisbane, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Library Administration/Bookmobile, Millbrae, North Fair Oaks, Pacifica, Portola Valley, San Carlos, and Woodside. Interns will work with youth to encourage reading skills, actively engage the families in activities and experiences inside the library, and participate in outreach at select community events in the broader city or County.

Schedule: This internship has a flexible and non-regular schedule. The intern will work up to 20 hours per week (Monday-Sunday). The hours will include weekends, vary, and may include evenings. Start and end dates are flexible and will be determined at the time of offer. These up to 12-week internships will start in June.

    Salary: $23.24 hourly

NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra-help workers are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the extra-help assignment.

    Examples Of Duties

After training, interns will either lead and facilitate hands on learning experiences in library locations throughout San Mateo County or will conduct meaningful and culturally sensitive outreach in the community to engage participants in summer learning with the library and break down any barriers to accessing enriching summer learning experiences.
