    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Just 45 minutes west of Fort Worth, Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway is located near the Wellness Capital of Texas. You will love the area's history and scenery, as well as all of the outdoor amenities.

    Under the direction of the Park Superintendent, this position performs routine (journey-level) state park operations work including interpretation and the preservation of Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway. Promotes conservation and stewardship of natural and cultural resources. Responsible for interpreting the park's natural and cultural resources. Conducts interpretive programs, tours, hikes and special events and promotes outreach programs with schools, libraries, scouts, and other community organizations/events. Assists with maintenance and cleaning of park buildings and grounds, and other park projects. Works closely in facilitating and coordinating activities and projects with park superintendent, park personnel, park hosts, volunteers and other alternative workforce. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.



    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.

    Experience :

    No experience required

    Licensure :

    Must possess a valid State driver's license at the time of hire.

    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

    Education :

    One year of experience in interpretation or conducting education programs may substitute for 30 hours of the required education; with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Park Administration, Recreation and Parks, Wildlife/Fisheries Science, Natural and/or Cultural Resource Management, Forestry, Biology, Anthropology, Archeology or History.

    Experience :

    Experience in natural or cultural resource management, general maintenance, public safety, promotions or public relations or marketing.

    Experience in interpretation or conducting educational programming.

    Experience in public speaking or other similar areas.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of public relations with ability to develop beneficial relationships and promotional partnerships with volunteer groups and other outside agencies and organizations.

    Knowledge of methods of interpretation and education.

    Knowledge of natural and cultural resource management.

    Knowledge of special event planning and implementation.

    Knowledge of basic mathematics.

    Knowledge of volunteer management.

    Knowledge of park operations.

    Knowledge of facility, equipment and grounds maintenance.

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel, MS Teams, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

    Skill in research, planning, organizing, development and implementation of public and interpretive programs, guided tours and/or environmental education for various age groups and abilities.

    Skill in developing beneficial community partnerships.

    Skill in planning, assigning, and/or supervising the work of volunteers.

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.

    Skill in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment.

    Ability to develop marketing and promotional activities and special events.

    Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities.

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    Ability to accurately handle cash and account for revenue collected.

    Ability to issue permits.

    Ability to work well with various groups and age ranges.

    Ability to survey visitors for program quality.

    Ability to develop and maintain beneficial relationships with civic groups, volunteers, community members and staff.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work 40 hours per week, includes flexible schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

    Required to work in a high visitation public park with overnight camping.

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

    Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations.

    Required to work overtime as necessary.

    Required to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    May be required to operate a state vehicle.

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
