    Job Description:

    Marketing Communications Consultant

    Purpose:

    This position is responsible for advertising and promotional materials developed for assigned products and services and the day-to-day management of the creative processes that provide quality image and sales materials for the organization.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    • Meets with product and service managers, provides input into appropriate advertising and promotional themes and materials, and assures quality development and production of these ideas.
    • Provides insight and guidance to strategies and materials that launch images, brands, and products and services.
    • Creates and delivers critical sales and advertising messages to various constituencies in response to competition in a deregulated marketplace.
    • Develops and maintains professional relationships with contracting agencies that supply support to Austin Energy accounts.
    • Provides marketing communication input into market segmentation and product planning.
    • Assists in developing advertising and promotion budgets.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
    • Knowledge of project management, database, and spreadsheet software.
    • Knowledge of marketing and sales support, product development, and brand development requirements.
    • Knowledge of graphics and copy quality development.
    • Skill in product and service development and launch.
    • Skill in copywriting and editing for various media.
    • Skill in program development, direct marketing, tradeshows, collateral production, and management.
    • Ability to develop and maintain corporate image and professional relationships.
    • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
    • Ability to understand competitive challenges facing a monopoly in transition.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years' experience in a related field.
    • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:

    None.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience supporting communications for large, multi-phase infrastructure or construction projects.
    • Experience creating and executing strategic communications plans.
    • Experience building trust and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to deliver communications in a complex environment.
    • Experience developing clear, accurate written materials across multiple formats (e.g., AP Style, digital, and print).
    • Experience in advanced writing, editing, and proofreading covering a wide range of writing styles and materials, including Associated Press Style (AP), collateral, and online communications.
    • Experience maintaining consistent messaging over time for an evolving project or initiative.



    Notes to Candidate:

    The Marketing Communications Consultant will join a team of communications and marketing professionals supporting Journey With AUS-the airport’s Expansion and Development Program. This role will be responsible for developing and executing strategic communication plans that inform and engage passengers throughout the expansion of AUS. This position will lead visual storytelling efforts, creating compelling multimedia content, including images and video, to bring the expansion journey to life and enhance the passenger experience.

    In addition to strategy and content creation, this role will manage day-to-day communications for the construction program, including developing timely, passenger-facing messaging about construction impacts. The consultant will also organize, track, and maintain archives of expansion-related projects and collaborate closely with the Public Information Specialist Seniors to deploy communications that inform the traveling public of changes affecting their AUS experience.

    Assessment:

    A skills assessment will be required for this position.

    Salary Range:

    $71,630.00 - $90,980.00

    Driver’s Requirement:

    This position requires traveling to multiple sites as part of the regular job duties. A driving record verification will be conducted. If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties.     Veteran:

    Criminal History Records Check:

    Work Hours:

    Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

    Hours may change depending on departmental needs.

    Work hours may include after-hours, holidays, and weekend work.

    City Government
