    Introduction

    The Police Logistics Technician performs a wide variety of quartermaster duties, which includes: the issuance, maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or repair of various Police equipment and supplies. Installs and maintains Police wireless communication equipment including: laptop computers and radios. Liaison between Police and Fleet regarding vehicle builds,equipment and repairs. Responsible for logistics and preparation for special events and trainings.

    Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity.

    The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $30.73 /hour or $63,918.40 annually.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience:
    • An Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice or Technology related studies, related trade school certification, from an accredited educational institution.
    • Two years of experience in: warehousing procedures, vehicle maintenance, customer service, and related technical fields.
    • An equivalent combination of education and job related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
    Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/services assignment.

    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
    • Coordinates, tracks, and follows through on Police vehicle repairs and maintenance with: the City's fleet department, car dealerships, or vendors installing equipment. Coordinates schedule in order to transport vehicles to/from outside vendors for repairs.
    • Provides preventative maintenance, operates, troubleshoots, and performs minor repairs of various Police equipment including: radios (vehicle and portable), portable breath testing devices, radar units, in car computer terminals, cellular telephones, and pagers.
    • Transports and coordinates repairs and replacements with vendors. Orders or purchases supplies for minor repairs.
    • Prepares, stocks, and maintains the special operations division vehicles for: special events, sobriety checkpoints/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) enforcement programs, and emergency situations. Assists and coordinates delivery of special events equipment and vehicles - DUI enforcement programs, certain training classes, and other local public special events. Tests, repairs, maintains, and calibrates alcohol breath testing equipment.
    • Transports or arranges for the transport of vehicles. Performs or arranges for unusual detailing or decontamination cleanup of vehicles.
    • Prioritizes and tracks daily activities through written repair orders. Performs physical inventories and notifies supervisor of equipment and supply needs. Occasionally issues or retrieves equipment supplied to new hire or employees separated from service.
    • Orders and warehouses supplies and equipment for the department. Issues and controls Police equipment inventory. Maintains accurate inventories and Purchasing Card transactions. Reconciles monthly all Purchasing Card transactions.

    • Work is performed in: an office environment, in police vehicles in various weather conditions, in a warehouse type of facility, and in the field as needed.
    • Seldom sedentary and includes walking or moving. Work sometimes involves climbing elevations.
    • Exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant hazardous odors.
    • Mechanical aptitude to work on: computers, breathalyzer equipment, radios, modems, cellular, ancillary support communication equipment, and other police equipment.
    • Bend, move, and crawl in and about vehicles to assess or repair a vehicle or equipment problem.
    • Lift arms above shoulder level.
    • Distinguish colors to identify wiring and electronic components.
    • Prepare boxed items of equipment and supplies.
    • Manual dexterity to operate: various basic hand tools, cleaning equipment, and various police equipment described above.
    • Move and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including: computer, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
    • Travel to/from various locations.
    • Operate a motor vehicle and large City emergency vehicles.
    • Visual and muscular dexterity to operate: equipment, computer, and two-way radio.
    • Perform shift work and be placed on on-call status during non-duty hours.
