    Job Summary

    Under immediate supervision and direction of the Sign Coordinator or designee, this position assists in creating graphic design, layout and signs for the purpose of signage on campus.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Under the direction of the Sign Coordinator, operate a variety of graphic publishing software programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to develop signage designs and delineate campus environments for proposed signage with the use of photography, illustrations and mockups. Assists Sign Coordinator on job walks with customers.
    • Under the direction of the Sign Coordinator, prepare layouts and produce materials using standard skills and knowledge related to the design, creation and display of visual print, multimedia and electronic materials.

    Time Base

    1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

    This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

    Compensation

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
    • CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,570 (Step 1) - $6,658 (Step 20) per month.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    The ideal candidate will possess strong computer skills, including working knowledge of spreadsheet and word-processing applications, and the ability to learn and effectively use in-house maintenance and campus event management systems. They demonstrate excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and customer service skills, with experience communicating professionally with all levels of administration, faculty, staff, contractors, and the public. This individual is highly organized, adaptable, and creative, able to multitask and prioritize projects in fast-paced, high-pressure environments while working with diverse populations. Familiarity with multi-line phones, paging systems, and graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Suite, along with a willingness to complete certified Adobe Illustrator training within the first year, is essential.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience

    Required:

    • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and six months of related professional or technical experience required.

    Preferred:

    • Minimum 3 years experience preferred producing graphic design to include graphic art layout, branding and logo design, typography and applying color theory.

    Licenses / Certificates

    • Valid California Driver's License.

    Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

    Physical Summary

    Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects (10 pounds or less).

    Additional Information

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
