About the Role As a vital member of the Stormwater Mowing Crew, you will be performing a variety of work tasks such as vegetation control maintenance, mowing, landscaping, weed removal, invasive weed removal, brush and tree removal. Work is performed outdoors, in all types of weather conditions and in aquatic environments. Seasonal Job Duration: Up to six months from May 4 - October 31, 2026, not to exceed 960 hours.About the TeamThis position resides within the Asset Management Unit (AMU). AMU is comprised of a dedicated team of high-performing engineers and program managers charged with managing and maintaining King County ‘s Stormwater assets and infrastructure. AMU manages assets to established maintenance standards while ensuring compliance with all local and federal permits (NPDES).
About the Division The Water and Land Resources Division (WLRD) is at the forefront of King County’s efforts to protect and restore clean water and healthy habitat and strengthen the resilience of communities, environment, and infrastructure in the face of climate change. WLRD has a strong track record of developing innovative strategies to protect working farms and forests, restore habitat, improve water quality, and provide county residents with equitable access to green space. We house the Land Conservation Initiative, which aims to preserve our last, most important lands. Our forestry and agricultural programs help individuals protect their lands and support local food production.We house four salmon recovery forums where we collaborate with scores of partners to plan, design, and build habitat projects. We partner with regional jurisdictions to help residents and businesses reduce the threats posed by production, use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials. We are the primary service provider to the King County Flood Control District, contributing to flood preparedness and constructing and maintaining facilities that restore rivers and reduce risk. Our one true local service to unincorporated King County is stormwater management, protecting water quality, reducing flooding, and building and maintaining facilities. Finally, we provide regional science and laboratory services to an array of customers, maintaining high-quality data sets used to assess water quality and habitat trends, and provide Best Available Science to inform decision making. - Maintain Stormwater Facilities to ensure proper function as designed and within time frames dictated by permitting and complying with prescribed maintenance standards.
- Maintain Stormwater Facilities by mowing, clearing, and removing brush, weeds, invasive weeds, trees and other debris.
- Safely operate and maintain equipment and vehicles such as weed eaters, power blowers, push mowers, remote mowers, trucks, trailers and other small landscaping equipment.
- Reading basic schematics, blueprints & maps.
- Other facility maintenance duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, SkillsQualifications You Bring:- Safely operate and maintain equipment and vehicles such as weed eaters, power blowers, push mowers, remote mowers, trucks, trailers and other small landscaping equipment.
- Skilled in communicating clearly and respectfully in both verbal and written forms, with a strong ability to understand and follow instructions while effectively prioritizing work tasks.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Knowledge of landscape operations, to include equipment operation & maintenance, basic knowledge of horticulture (preferred skill) & can identify noxious weeds.

It Would be Good if You Bring:- 1-2 years of experience in landscaping, including operating equipment & remote mowers.
- Knowledge of native and invasive plants in Washington State.
- Power tool equipment and maintenance experience.
- GIS experience for navigating to & from sites, interpreting basic sketches.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid Washington State Driver’s license at the time of appointment.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to work on uneven slopes, surfaces, grades and terrain in inclement weather & other adverse conditions, while carrying equipment up to 50lbs.
- A final offer of employment will be contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment physical.
Supplemental InformationWorking Conditions:Work Location: The primary onsite location is 155 Monroe Ave NE, Renton, WA 90856. Crew members will report to daily to this address unless an alternative location is approved by the Supervisor/Manager.
Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
