    The LA County Board of Supervisors has unanimously ratified a Proclamation of Local Emergency in response to the windstorms and wildfires , including the Palisades and Eaton Fires, that have devastated communities across the County. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to assist the County in mobilizing resources and support needed to help our residents recover and rebuild.     The Los Angeles County Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Payroll Clerk II vacancies related to this unprecedented natural disaster.

    Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.

    During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.

    Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Payroll Clerk II.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Enters and monitors payroll data necessary to produce total pay using CWTAPPS.
    • Plans, schedules and evaluates or assists in planning, scheduling, and evaluating the work of the payroll section and maintains work controls.
    • Acts or assists in acting as a departmental source of payroll knowledge, recommends departmental payroll procedures, interprets County payroll policies, and prepares payroll reports.
    • Acts as liaison with the Auditor-Controller, the Department of Human Resources and the Chief Administrative Office on payroll matters.
    • Performs the more difficult payroll work including the resolution of payroll problems.
    • Trains new employees in the work of the section or unit.
    • Applies provisions of the Los Angeles County Code, the Payroll Manual, the Interpretive Manual, and applicable Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in processing the payroll.
    • Explains payroll policies and procedures to employees and/or to the public.
    • Reviews CWTAPPS exception reports, and makes corrections as required.
    • Prepares special reports using CWTAPPS data.


    Requirements

    REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY :

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE :
    One year's payroll clerical experience in a central payroll office of a County department at the level of a Payroll Clerk I* - OR - Two years specialized office clerical experience in Los Angeles County service at the level of a Senior Clerk** performing the full-time timekeeping duties of reviewing and recording CWTAPPS payroll documents or time records.

    You MUST meet the above requirement(s) in order to be appointed to fill any vacancies related to this recruitment.

    PHYSICAL CLASS :
    Physical Class 2 - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION :
    *Payroll Clerk I is defined as p rocessing the payroll for a segment of a County departmental or Health Services payroll operation.

    ** Senior Clerk is defined as performing highly-specialized clerical duties.

    EXAMINATION CONTENT :
    During your initial work period, the appointing department will evaluate your performance. Those who achieve a passing score on this evaluation will be considered for permanent appointment.
