    In accordance with Fresno County Personnel Rule 4310.4, the County of Fresno Probation Department invites applications for the position of Deputy Chief Probation Officer. Incumbents report to the Chief Probation Officer and work collaboratively as a key member of the Executive Council to determine policy, develop programs, and formulate operational objectives within state legal requirements, County ordinances, policies, and procedural guidelines. Responsibilities include planning, directing, managing, and evaluating the operations, goals, programs, policies, and procedures of a Probation Department division.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education : Possession of a bachelor's degree that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or university system.

    Experience : Three (3) years of full-time, paid work experience equivalent to that gained as an Assistant Deputy Chief Probation Officer with the County of Fresno.

    License : Possession of a valid Class “C” driver's license, or equivalent.

    Other : Under California Penal Code Section 830.5, the Deputy Chief Probation Officer classification is defined as a Peace Officer. Therefore, candidates must be able to meet all pre-employment as well as ongoing peace officer status requirements pursuant to Federal, State, and local legislation.

    Note : Recruitment and/or certification may be limited to candidates possessing a specific education and/or experience background related to the specific position vacancy as authorized by the Director of Human Resources.

    As a condition of employment with the Probation Department, candidates may need to undergo and pass a thorough and rigid background investigation, polygraph, and medical and psychological examinations. The background investigation will require candidates to provide information regarding personal history including legal issues - arrests and/or convictions; personal information - relatives, references, and acquaintances; verification of education, experience and employment; residences; financial status; military service; and vehicle operation history. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified.

    SELECTION PROCESS:

    Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4310 - Suspension of Competition, competitive examination may be suspended by the Director of Human Resources for a vacancy that meets the specified criteria. In such cases, all applicants must meet the established minimum qualifications and filing requirements as specified on this announcement. In this instance, the hiring Department Head shall interview internal department eligibles who indicate an interest in the position and meet the established minimum qualifications.
