    Essential Job Functions

    Plans work of phlebotomy services to ensure needs of hospitals and clinics are met.

    Recommends to supervisor changes in unit operations and budget expenditures in order to provide increased phlebotomy service to hospitals units and clinics.

    Supervises phlebotomy technicians and ancillary personnel with responsibility for their training and evaluation; effectively recommends the adjustment of employee grievances and disciplinary action.

    Requirements

    We are looking for dedicated individuals who have:
    Two years of experience at the level of the Los Angeles County class of Phlebotomy Technician I* or higher.**

    LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATE(S):
    A valid certificate to practice as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or II issued by the California State Department of Health Services, Laboratory Field Services (CA DHS-LFS) Phlebotomy Program***.
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
    Physical Class II - Light:
    This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional lightlifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS :
    Additional credit will be awarded for additional experience beyond the Minimum Requirements.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
    * At the level of the Los Angeles County class of Phlebotomy Technician I is define has: Performs venipuncture and skin puncture to obtain blood specimens from patients for diagnostic testing in a medical or clinical laboratory.

    ** Or Higher is define has: Schedules, assigns and reviews the work of a group of Phlebotomy Technicians I engaged in the performance of venipuncture and skin puncture to obtain blood specimens for diagnostic testing in a medical or clinical laboratory.

    You may still qualify even if your job title isn’t exactly the same as the one listed. What matters is that your experience is at a similar level - meaning your job involves similar responsibilities, requires comparable skills and knowledge, and takes place within a similar organizational structure. Please provide a clear explanation of your experience to demonstrate that it is at the appropriate level.

    EXAMINATION CONTENT:
    This examination will consist of an evaluation of education, experience, and desirable qualifications based upon your application information, weighted 100%

    Candidates need to achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.

    ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:
    Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the eligible register accordingly.
    Candidates who have received a passing score are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve(12) months.

    No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.

    The eligible register for this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Health Services as they occur.

    SPECIAL INFORMATION:
    Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
