Corrections Officer – Job Overview The Henderson Police Department announces the opening of applications for the position of Corrections Officer. Processing and testing of applicants will occur throughout the year on an ongoing basis.The department is seeking dedicated people of character, courage, conscience, and compassion who are interested in a challenging and rewarding career of service to the citizens and community of Henderson.The pool of candidates from this recruitment may be used to fill vacancies for the classification of Corrections Officer for up to one (1) year.Corrections Officer – Responsibilities Under general supervision, performs security work overseeing and directing the activities of inmates within the Detention Center and during transport to other facilities, and performs related duties as required.Qualifications Graduation from high school or equivalent.Possess and maintain a valid driver license. Upon hire, possess a Nevada or "border state" driver license under conditions defined by Nevada Revised Statute 483.035.Must be a U.S. citizen at the time of application.Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application, and 21 by the start of the academy.Must have no convictions for offenses greater than a misdemeanor or domestic violence.Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/40 in one eye and 20/30 in both eyes.Hearing must be 30 decibels or less for each ear.Must successfully complete the Henderson Police Department Academy within the time frame prescribed by the department.Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a warrants check.Must complete Security Awareness and NCIC/NV CJIS certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years; must maintain certifications in NCIC/NV CJIS as a condition of continued employment.Documents Required at Time of Application Completed Employment ApplicationCompleted Supplemental QuestionnaireAssessment Information Step 1: Submit Your Application – Apply by September 15th, 2026 to join us for the February 2027 Academy.Step 2: Written Exam – Must be completed within 14 calendar days of receiving invitation to test.Step 3: Physical Fitness Test – Candidates invited to the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) will receive an email notice. Dates are:Physical Fitness Test Dates June 24thJuly 8th and 22ndAugust 1st, 12th, and 26thSeptember 12th, 19th, and 30thOctober 7thPLEASE NOTE: The Physical Fitness Test will only be offered on the dates above. To remain eligible, candidates must be available to attend the PFT on one of these dates.Physical Fitness Test RequirementsVertical Jump – 11.5 inchesAgility Run – 23.4 secondsSit-Ups – 24 in 60 secondsPush-Ups – 18 (no time limit)300 Meter Run – 82 seconds1.5 Mile Run/Walk – 20 minutes 20 secondsPLEASE NOTE: Candidates must meet the standards shown in the video in accordance with Nevada POST requirements during the academy; the hiring process is based on the listed requirements.Step 4: Preliminary Oral Board Interview – Conducted via Microsoft Teams after successful completion of Physical Fitness Test.Step 5: Background Investigation – Includes Personal History Questionnaire, Polygraph Examination, Fingerprinting.Step 6: Command Staff Interview – Candidates who successfully complete backgrounds will be invited for a final interview with HPD Command Staff.Step 7: Conditional Offer – Drug Screening, Psychological Examination, Medical & Physical Screening.Step 8: Employment Offer & Academy – Henderson Police Academy hours are 6am-4pm, Monday–Thursday for approximately 24 weeks.Important Information on Scheduling Assessments If you are invited to participate in the assessment process, you will be required to self‑schedule through the City of Henderson online application system.
