Position OverviewThe County of Yolo is recruiting Correctional Officer I for the Monroe Detention Center in Woodland, CA. The position includes guarding, controlling, and supervising inmates and related duties. This is the entry‑level class into the Correctional Officer series, with incumbents expected to qualify for Correctional Officer II after one year.ResponsibilitiesReceives, books and processes incoming inmates; prepares related paperwork; photographs inmates, and takes fingerprints.Maintains security through key, door, tool, and equipment control.Receives visitors; processes correspondence, phone calls and request slips.Controls contraband through routine facility and inmate searches; supervises the conduct and security of inmates in cells and in movement during meals, visitation, and institutional activities.Supervises inmates in the performance of assigned duties; is responsible for the discipline and control of inmates; assists medical and psychiatric staff in the management of inmates.Promotes positive attitudes among inmates through instruction and discipline.Watches for changes in moods or attitudes among the inmates that might indicate a security or safety risk.Investigates non‑criminal incidents within the facility.Performs monetary transactions, data terminal operations, and processing of booking, bail, warrants and court paperwork.Prepares prisoners for and assists in their transportation; processes inmate discharges and release.Arranges for medical care of sick and/or injured inmates.Minimum QualificationsEducation – Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D.Age – Applicants must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.Background Requirements – No felony convictions in any jurisdiction; good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation.License – Valid California driver's license, Class C or higher.Knowledge of – Criminal attitudes and behavior patterns; purposes and methods of discipline applied to persons under criminal confinement.Ability to – Interpret and enforce institutional rules with firmness, tact, and impartiality; effectively control, direct, and instruct inmates; conduct searches and respond to emergencies; lift and carry bodies; operate safety and security equipment; and perform other duties described above.Selection ProcedureScreen for Minimum QualificationsDepartment Selection InterviewWritten ExaminationBehavioral AssessmentBackground InvestigationFinal interview with the Sheriff and/or the Sheriff's designeeConditional Job Offer, pending:Psychological ExamMedical ExamWritten ExamThis recruitment includes multiple exam sessions throughout the year.
