Security Officer II - Patrol
Under the supervision of the Director of Campus Safety, the Campus Safety Officer conducts routine campus patrols, completes daily logs, and prepares incident reports. The officer responds to and investigates campus incidents, coordinates with emergency responders and university departments as needed, and reports safety hazards identified during patrols. Officers may occasionally provide coverage at a gatehouse and may be required to remain on duty beyond scheduled shifts during emergencies, critical incidents, or disasters. All duties support the mission of the university.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the following:
- Protect life and property, and enforce campus regulations
- Report vehicles in violation of campus regulations and state laws (warnings may be given for other traffic violations of campus regulations)
- Observe and control all parking facilities
- Investigate and report on minor vehicle collisions
- Perform daily routine patrols of the university grounds and facilities and record observations
- Observe and make written reports on any incident, injury, or crime that occurs or is discovered while on duty
- Investigative questioning as needed to collect facts concerning incidents, injuries, or crimes on campus (Note: no physical contact is involved in this questioning; duties are limited to being an excellent witness and summoning the appropriate authorities as needed)
- Provide traffic control functions such as setting up signs and cones and directing traffic for special events; Campus Safety Officers may need to help cover or assist at a gatehouse for full or partial shifts
- Keep current on dates, times and locations of special events and meetings on campus in order to provide visitors to the campus with helpful information
- Provide public assistance as needed: e.g., dead vehicle battery jumpstarts, personal escorts, delivery of emergency messages, etc. (Note: Campus Safety personnel are not responsible for changing flat tires or for obtaining gas for vehicles; public assistance for vehicles is limited to those that are parked on campus)
- Complete daily logs as specified and maintain good records of logs and reports
- Assist maintenance areas by reporting maintenance needs and unsafe conditions to the maintenance office
- Perform routine safety inspections of fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, alarms and emergency lighting systems on a regular basis
- Ensure that the building entrances are locked and secure per posted schedule
- Participate and assist in emergency preparedness drills and exercises as directed
Other duties as assigned may be assigned from time to time
Pay Range: $20 - $21 per hour
Qualifications
Education: High School or better
Experience: First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications, as well as valid guard card issued by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs required. Minimum of one year of experience as a security officer preferred
